James (Sonny) Baker, 88, Green County, KY (1929-2017)

He had made a profession of faith in Christ and was a member of the Milltown United Methodist Church. Mr. Baker was a self-employed carpenter.His wife, Paula Baker, Greensburg, KY, survives. He was a member of a prominent family, a native of Adair County and a resident of Green County at the time of his death. He was the son of the late Dewey Baker & Iva Keltner Baker. He leaves seven direct living descendants and many close relatives in Green, Adair, Fayette Counties of Kentucky, and elsewhere. His final resting place will be at Tarter's Chapel Cemetery, 4360 Milltown Road, located in the Portland community of Adair County, KY. Check back here later for additional obituary information

James Sonny Baker, age 88 of Greensburg, KY, passed away Saturday, December 9, 2017, at the Jane Todd Crawford Hospital in Greensburg, KY.

The funeral services for James Sonny Baker will be conducted at 1pmCT, Wednesday, December 13, 2017, at the Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home, 206 S Main Street, Greensburg, KY, with burial to follow in the Tarter's Chapel Cemetery in Adair County, KY, with full military honors. Bro. Russell Janes will officiate. Visitation is requested after 9amCT, Wednesday at the Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home until time of the funeral service.


Pallbearers: Benny Clay Sullivan, Jeff Yarberry, Glenn Janes, Jason Yarberry, Bryan Baker, and Roger Baker.

Honorary pallbearers: Clinton Kelly, Duluth Baker, Gleason Baker, Garland Baker, Harold Farrow, Tommy Cole, and Chuck Land.


James (Sonny) Baker, 88, Green County, KY (1929-2017


Mr. James Sonny Baker of Greensburg, Kentucky, son of the late Dewey Baker and Iva Keltner Baker, was born on Wednesday, October 16, 1929 in Columbia, Adair County, Kentucky and departed this life on Saturday, December 9, 2017 at the Jane Todd Crawford Hospital in Greensburg. He was 88 years, one month, and 23 days of age.

He had made a profession of faith in Christ and was a member of the Milltown United Methodist Church. Mr. Baker was also a self-employed carpenter.

He is survived by his wife of almost 63 years, Paula Baker, having united in marrriage on December 19, 1954 , and the following:
  • A son and daughter-in-law: Gene Autry & Christine Baker of Lexington, KY

  • A daughter and son-in-law: Pam & Steve Gupton of Greensburg, KY

  • Four grandchildren: Matthew Baker of Ohio, Courtney Baker Burke and her husband, Terrell of California, Bret Baker of Lexington, KY; and Josh Gupton and his wife, Brooke of Greensburg, KY

  • A great-granddaughter: Lexi Gupton of Greensburg, KY

  • Three brothers and sisters-in-law: Duluth & Jean Baker of Columbia, KY; Gleason and Bonnie Baker of North Carolina, and Garland & Doris Baker of Columbia, KY

  • A sister and brother-in-law: Ella Dee and Russell Janes of Cave City, KY
