2017-11-11 - 500 Green Hills Road, Columbia, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener, columbiamagazine.com.
Warren "Buck" Perkins, 96, was the only World War II Veteran able to attend the Saturday morning breakfast at the new VFW center. He was awarded a gift quilt from the Country Quilters. Sharon Bledsoe, center, made the quilt, one of several to be given to Veterans, and she and Kathy Jones, left, made the presentation of the patriotic quilt. Mr. Perkins then called on Mackie Jo Pennington who works at Summit Manor and asked her to please take the gift quilt to his wife. Other WWII Veterans unable to attend will have their quilts delivered to them. Names were drawn after this presentation for winners of several more handmade quilts. - LW

Veterans Breakfast 2017 a first at the new VFW Post 6097

A First, a history making event with the first ever Veterans Annual Breakfast in the New Post Building made this event a Red Letter Day one - but thanks to some behind the scenes negotiations at a very high level, the Post's Monument is in Place - weeks earlier than had been expected, when on Thursday, November 9, 2017, it was quietly and safely secured in place.

A huge country breakfast was served up by Walmart associates, the co-hosts with United Citizens Bank, and then there was a brief ceremony.

It was a very emotional meeting with only one WWII Veteran able to be in attendance, and ths was the first time for this event to be held in the new VFW building at its new location.
