P. Kermeen: Good bye Kentucky

Dylloon & Kaileigh Kermeen returning to Okinawa vacation in Kentucky, Ohio, and Indiana. Grandparents hoping they will return next summer.

By Pam Kermeen

Well, we're proud to be an OKI (Okinawa) from Kentucky.
A place where little kids can have some fun.
We still wave Old Glory out in the front yard.
And pond fishing s still the biggest thrill of all...
In Columbia, Kentucky USA!

We are leaving Nashville in an hour. Heading to Toronto then on to Tokyo and then Okinawa.

Dyllon and Kaileigh Kermeen enjoyed their visit. They camped with cousins in Indiana for three days, went to the Wolf Creek Fish Hatchery, went to Coney Island, a Cincinnati Red's ballgame, a trampoline park in Bowling Green, went fishing and Dyllon fought a catfish for 8.5 minutes before the big one got away!

Hopefully, they can return next summer. - PAM KERMEEN

Letter: Only people stare at the sun

View safely: Fried eyeballs ain't that much fund, writer warns

Michael Potter writes:
No need to worry about the girls: they don't look at the sun. Only people do that.

The solar flux density on earth is about 3 times 10 to the seventeenth photons per centimeter squared second. In order to view the sun you should use shade 14 glass. That will reduce the flux density by about six orders of magnitude. If you are in an area where there is totality, during totality you can, and should, look at the corona directly without the 14 shade glass. It's a sight you will never forget. After totality, back to the shade 14 glass.

Do not use any magnifying device such as binoculars, etc. Fried eyeballs just ain't that much fun! --Michael Potter

Writer says Vicky's cows will think eclipse is nighttime

Louise Butler writes:
I'm pretty sure "the girls" won't be viewing the solar eclipse. I've heard of chickens going to roost at the onset of a solar eclipse thinking it was getting nighttime. The cattle probably think the same and have no urge to look at the sun. Vicky rest assured that nature will deal with properly. - Louise Butler
