Storm, possibly straight line winds, hits Campbellsville

A storm hit Campbellsville Tuesday evening, April 18, 2017, causing heavy damage to the roof at the Taylor County School on East Broadway, at Fiesta Mexico, and at the Super 8 Motel. Lighter damage was seen elsewhere. At the Big Dawg studio at 101 E Main, one blue canvas window canopy was completely blown away, and there was other damage as well. - LARRY SMITH, Manager, WVLC 99.9 FM, the Big Dawg.

Jason Rector elected chair of Adair Republican Party

The Adair County Republican Party had a wonderful turnout for Monday night's meeting which was held to elect new officers.

Those voted in will each serve a four year term. They are: Chairman - Jason Rector, Vice Chair - Natalie Sneed, Treasurer - Gina Baker, Secretary - Shannon Pendleton Sexton, and Youth Chair - Elliot Burton.

LEXINGTON, KY - (Mon 17 Feb 2017) A federal judge has sentenced a Lexington man to life in prison, for illegally distributing drugs that caused an overdose death in Lexington.

Senior U.S. District Judge Joseph M. Hood formally sentenced 28 year-old Joshua Donald Ewing for distribution of fentanyl and heroin resulting in the death of Jeremy Deaton.

Earth Day will be celebrated on CU campus Friday, 21 April 2017

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. - Campbellsville University will celebrate Earth Day in a ceremony at 10amET Friday, April 21 2017 at the Turner Log Cabin at 505 N Columbia Ave., Campbellsville, Ky.

Dr. Michael V. Carter, president of Campbellsville University, will be present, along with Tony Young, mayor of Campbellsville, and Eddie Rogers, Taylor County judge-executive, who will give a proclamation for Earth Day.

Earth Stewardship Awards will be presented. Roberta Burnes, who works for the Division of Air Quality in Frankfort, Ky., has agreed to be present with her company issued electric hybrid car. It is colorful and anyone can look under the hood.

The hunt for great food gets easier with Buy Local

New KDA program rewards businesses for offering more Kentucky farm-sourced menu items

Frankfort, KY - Kentucky Proud has unveiled Buy Local, a new program intended to encourage restaurants and other food service businesses to purchase locally produced food products, Agriculture Commissioner Ryan Quarles has announced.

Buy Local helps food services identify Kentucky Proud products based on direct farm impact. The program's mission is to encourage community eateries to increase their local food purchases while heightening their customers' awareness of the economic importance of supporting Kentucky's farms and neighborhood businesses. The 15 percent reimbursement provides an incentive for these establishments while they build customer loyalty through highlighting fresh farm food.

Adair County Middle School recently selected eight students - four boys and four girls - to serve as its sixth grade Students of the month for April. The students were chosen based on their improved academic performance, exemplary behavior, and positive attitudes.

The students selected are, from left: Collin Pike (reading), C.J. Bryant (social studies), Kailee Brown (math), Jake Hill (science), Amaria Johnson (reading), Hayden Bennet (math), Lexi Snider (social studies) and Lexi Sroka (science).

Monroe County death investigation underway

TOMPKINSVILLE, KY. (Tue 18 Apr 2017) - On Monday, April 17, 2017, at 1:09pmCT , Post 15 was notified by the Tompkinsville Police Department of a deceased man inside a vehicle at a residence on Bradshaw Road in Tompkinsville. The victim was identified as 54-year-old William McClendon III who lived at the residence where found. McClendon had a pre-existing medical condition that is believed to have been the cause of his death. No foul play is expected. Detective Kevin Roberts is investigating.
