Drivers warned: U Drive, U Text, U Pay

April is National Distracted Driving Awareness Month -- a time to remember to keep cell phones and pagers out of reach, to know that drivers under 18 are prohibited by law from using these or even entering GPS information without stopping. It's a good month for remembering these guides and in general for respecting the speed limit and calming things down when behind the wheel.

FRANKFORT, KY - In honor of National Distracted Driving Awareness Month, the Kentucky Office of Highway Safety (KOHS) and law enforcement agencies are asking drivers to keep their eyes on the road and hands on the wheel as part of the U Drive. U Text. U Pay. campaign.

"Distracted driving is a growing threat as too many drivers are ignoring their responsibilities behind the wheel," said KOHS Executive Director Dr. Noelle Hunter. "By educating drivers on the consequences of distracted driving and following through with traffic enforcement, we are sending a clear message that we are serious about stopping this deadly behavior."

Billy Joe Fudge: Little plant is Purple Dead-nettle or henbit

He gives distinction between the two. Both are in the mint family
Comments re article 89669 Sue Mullins Asks about little flowers in Robert Ellis photo

By Billy Joe Fudge

If the stem has leaves all the way to the ground it is Purple dead-nettle.

If the stem is bare of leaves up to 2 or 3 inches from the ground up it is Henbit.

They are both in the Mint family although the mint smell doesn't permeate the air when crushed as Spearmint and Lemonmint do.

They are both edible according to all my experience and sources, although I take no responsibility for any inconvenience or distress or worse which their ingestion might cause.

In most cases they are referred to as a stimulant and a laxative so beware, since they may stimulate one to go to the bathroom! - Billy Joe Fudge

Jim: Bluebells, Mason jars, and Williams Creek

Green County Bluebells: are they migrants from Williams Creek, then Hudsons Creek, on to Russells Creek, Russell County? Writer wonders. Admitting it's not likely, but not really impossible, either. Click on headline for complete hypothesis.
Comments on: Wildflowers of KY: Bluebells along Russell Crk RD, Green Co.

By JIM

Ed & Linda - Thanks for the great photo of the bluebells. Always when I see those beautiful harbingers of spring, my sweet Mama and her love for growing flowers come to mind. Within the metes and bounds of our little corner of the world, at the top of the hill from Main Street, she had flowers of all sorts in just about every corner, including ferns and bluebells (among others) over the hill near the banks of Williams Creek, between highway 80 and Milton Heights.

CMS students learn about Morse, binary codes

By Calen McKinney, Public Information Officer
Campbellville Independendent Schools (CIS)

Campbellsville Middle School fourth-graders recently learned about different types of codes people use to communicate. Students in Samantha Coomer's science class are learning about Morse code and binary code.

They watched a video of a man who was being interviewed, but used his eyes to blink a message for help in Morse code.

Students also watched a video about binary code, which is a system of using 1s and 0s to create a pattern that can be interpreted by a computer. As an exercise, Coomer's students deciphered binary code to reveal words. They also wrote their own binary codes and worked in pairs to decipher them.
