Joyce Coomer: Culmination of Purple Week in yard

A grand finale of Purple - great except for 'non-native, invasive, and annoying henbit.'

Joyce Coomer writes:
The redbuds in bloom around the pasture were a grand finale of "purple week" in my yard. The grape hyacinths have been in bloom for more than two weeks and seemed to be even happier yesterday than when they first started blooming. Regular hyacinths scattered hither and yon are still blooming brightly -- purple, of course -- and the squill still has a few bright blooms. Scattered batches of violets were in bloom across the yard yesterday.

Also in the purple theme are two hyacinths by the porch at work and vinca by the side of the building which has been highlighted with dandelions. (See accompanying photo.)

However, the non-native, invasive and annoying henbit I can do without.
- Joyce M. Coomer

'That magnificent voice' - G.W. Perryman, Russell Co, KY - III

In this installment, JIM covers Rev. G.W. Perryman's activity on the lecture circuit, offering lectures 'full of fun and good common sense.' A favorite was 'Wanted - A Man.' A Blank Advertisement. A nugget: Rev. G.W. Perryman played a big role in securing a Carnegie grant for a public library in Paducah, McCracken County, KY, where according to this story opened with 'around 1,800 volumes.' An ardent prohibitionist, Dr. Perryman, once thundered from the pulpit, JIM says, 'I want you one and all to understand that if any of you are for the saloon, high or low license, that I will make is so warm for you that you will not have to sit close to the registers in this church.'" for the lecture appears as a linked photo with this piece.
Next earlier installment: 'That magnificent voice' - G.W. Perryman, Russell County, KY - Part II

"That magnificent voice:" The life and times of Rev. G.W. Perryman, late of Russell County, Kentucky.

Part III

When last we left Rev. G.W. Perryman and family, they were preparing to move from Middlesboro to Paducah, where he had accepted a pastorate. This transition is a good time to briefly step away from the chronology of his life and look at aspects beyond the pulpit.

Trompe l'oeil photo may require effort to see reality

Some of the comments about Scenic Adair Co., KY: Trompe l'oeil falls of Bull Run is that the illusion is the first impression they get, and an effort is needed to see the reality.

Whether you've seen it earlier or note - might be a good reality check to see it again today.
