Styles named NAIA Women's Basketball Player of the Week

COLUMBIA, KY (Tue 21 Feb 2017) - Kayla Styles is the NAIA Women's Basketball Player of the Week, the national office announced today.

The national player of the week honor is the second this season for Styles. The Louisville, KY native also received the accolade on February 7, 2017.

Adair High School's FPS Team wins region, qualifies for State

The Adair County High School Academic Team competed at regionals last weekend at South Warren High School in Bowling Green, KY. and finished with an impressive showing. The team took home the championship in Future Problem Solving (FPS), qualified several individuals for state with top five finishes, and narrowly lost the outright team victory to Glasgow.

"We were in some pretty high-pressure situations," says head coach Brett Reliford. "We're top-three in one of the most competitive regions in the state, so that's nothing to be ashamed of. We had some close calls."

WKU second in list of top Fulbright producers

Bowling Green, KY - Western Kentucky University is tied for second in the list of top Fulbright-producing master's degree-granting institutions.

WKU had eight Fulbright grantees in 2016-17, making it the only public master's institution in the top three. WKU tied with Loyola Marymount University while Villanova University ranks first with 11 grantees. This is the fourth time and the third consecutive year WKU has been named a top Fulbright-producing institution as reported today (Feb. 21) in the Chronicle of Higher Education.

WKU was the only Kentucky school to make the master's degree institution list. The University of Louisville was the only other Kentucky school listed, tied for 11th among research institutions.

WKU's eight Fulbright grantees, all of whom are also graduates of the Honors College at WKU, are:

LWC Softball doubleheader at Union on Tuesday

The No. 8-ranked Lindsey Wilson softball team travels for a doubleheader against Union College at 12pmCT on Tuesday at Union Field, 310 College St, Barbourville, KY.

The Blue Raiders (4-2) opened up their 2017 season at the NAIA Southeastern Challenge in Beaufort, South Carolina. Lindsey Wilson opened up the Southeastern Challenge defeating No. 16-ranked Reinhardt (Ga.) 10-7. The Blue Raiders also picked up victories over Bryan (Tenn.), South Carolina-Beaufort, and Faulkner (Ala.). Lindsey Wilson was defeated by Thomas (Ga.) and No. 10-ranked William Carey (Miss.) 5-3 in nine innings.

Crane is board chair of National Association of Play Therapy

Lindsey Wilson College Associate Professor of Human Services and Counseling Jodi Crane is currently serving the 2016-17 term as board chair of the National Association of Play Therapy.

Crane is no stranger to play therapy. She has held many different roles with the Association of Play Therapy (APT) and has been an advocate for play therapy within the college and university system for years.

"When my family and I first moved to Kentucky I got involved in the state branch of play therapy," said Crane. "I eventually became president of KPT (Kentucky Play Therapy) and I did that for four years. Then when I finished, I moved on to serving on several committees of KPT. Bill Burns, the CEO of KPT, encouraged me to run for the board. I joined the board in 2012. I was a chair for three years and then re-elected. I was chair-elect for a year and now I'm board chair."

KY Justice Cabinet to host training on victim assistance

Frankfort, KY - The Kentucky Justice and Public Safety Cabinet has been awarded federal funds to host a State Victim Assistance Academy, which trains groups that assist crime victims.

The goal of the academy is to provide fundamental, comprehensive, and academically-based education and training for victim assistance providers, victim advocates, criminal justice personnel, and allied professionals who routinely deal with crime victims in Kentucky.

Boil Water Advisory issued for Milltown Rd. area

Time Issues: 7amCT


A Boil Water Advisory is in effect for consumers of Columbia Adair Utilities District on Milltown Rd, Milltown Church Rd. and all side roads in that area and starting at the red light at Wal-Mart down to 5055 Edmonton Rd and all side roads in between.

The advisory has been issued due to main line leak.

Following such an event, the potential exists for bacteriological contamination of the water supply therefore this Boil Water Advisory has been issued as a precautionary measure.

Until further notice, boil all water used for drinking and cooking, bring the water to a rolling boil for three minutes before using.

The advisory will remain in effect until the situation has been corrected and test results have shown the water to be of an acceptable quality.

Gaona art to be shown at CU's Pence-Chowning Art Gallery

Willard Sallee, 82, Taylor Co., KY (1934-2017)

He was drafted into the Army at age 18 and served his country honorably in the United States Army. He was stationed in Germany, Czechoslovakia and numerous other places and was also awarded the Good Conduct Medal. He was a retired employee of Taylor County RECC, having started out as a lineman and retiring as a maintenance supervisor. Some of his past times included working in the yard, wood working projects, making old canes and having Saturday morning breakfast at Spurlington United Methodist Church. He was the son of the late Howett & Sarah Campbell Sallee, and the widower of Faye Sallee, his wife of 52 years. He leaves 10 direct living descendants>
