LWC Softball doubleheader at Union on Tuesday

The No. 8-ranked Lindsey Wilson softball team travels for a doubleheader against Union College at 12pmCT on Tuesday at Union Field, 310 College St, Barbourville, KY.

The Blue Raiders (4-2) opened up their 2017 season at the NAIA Southeastern Challenge in Beaufort, South Carolina. Lindsey Wilson opened up the Southeastern Challenge defeating No. 16-ranked Reinhardt (Ga.) 10-7. The Blue Raiders also picked up victories over Bryan (Tenn.), South Carolina-Beaufort, and Faulkner (Ala.). Lindsey Wilson was defeated by Thomas (Ga.) and No. 10-ranked William Carey (Miss.) 5-3 in nine innings.


The Bulldogs (2-3) defeated Taylor (Ind.) 12-7 on Saturday. Union recorded 14 hits in the victory and hit three home runs. Hannah Melhorne hit two home runs and totaled four RBIs. Tiffanie Moore hit one home run and drove in three runs. Union trailed 7-4 going into their half of the fourth. The Bulldogs went on to score four runs in both the fourth and fifth innings to take the lead. Union ranks third in the NAIA in home runs averaging one per game.

Today is the 23rd matchup between the two schools. Lindsey Wilson holds a 17-5 edge in the series and have won three of the four matchups last season. The Blue Raiders have won 10 of the last 12 meetings.
