Jewell F. Milby, Taylor Co., KY (1937-2017)

She was a retired clerk with the U. S. Corps of Engineers. Her husband of over 60 years, Bruce Milby, survives. She was the daughter of the late Coakley & Nannie White Cox Wood. She leaves four direct living descendants.

Mr. Samuel Leslie Underwood, Green Co., KY (1931-2017)

He led a life of distinguished service, church and civic involvement, and in his professional life as a Certified Cancer Registrar. He was a graduate of Campbellsville College (now University), and an outstanding farmer.He loved his "Edge O Green Farm" of green fields and registered Angus Cattle. He subscribed to best-farm practices and left it a better farm. His wife of 61 years, Helen Sandidge Underwood, survives

A memorial service for Mr. Samuel Leslie Underwood will be conducted at 11amCT, Wednesday, February 22, 2017 at the Greensburg Presbyterian Church, 119 N Main Street, Greensburg, KY, with Rev. Charlie Taylor officiating. Diana Goff, Brenda Patterson, and Lesa Bradshaw Register Attendants. Visitation is requested after 8amCT, Wednesday at the Greensburg Presbyterian Church until time of the memorial service. Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home, 206 S Main Street, Greensburg, KY, in charge of the service arrangements. Mr. Underwood bequeathed his body to the University of Louisville School of Medicine.

The Adair County Primary Center, 158 Col. Casey Drive, Columbia, KY hosted a Family Science Night on Thursday, February 16, 2017.

Families greatly enjoyed the different science stations that Lindsey Wilson College education students had set up for them.

From the Water Cycle to Elephant Toothpaste and everything in between students and families alike had some hands-on learning fun! Adair Co. Grand Jury returns indictments 14 Feb 2017

Charges brought against 9 individuals from Columbia, Russell Springs, Edmonton, and Liberty, KY. Charges include theft, assault, burglary, DUI, possession, sexual abuse, carrying a concealed deadly weapon, and obscuring the identity of a machine.

NOTE: Indictments are considered formal charges. An indictment is not a finding of guilt. An individual charged by indictment is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty at some later criminal proceeding.

Fifty-seven local artists, volunteers, and high school students visited Adair County Elementary School Friday, February 17, 2017 for the third annual Leaders in the Arts program. The event, which is orchestrated by music teacher Paula Bault and art teacher Rachel Bardin, serves as an introduction to many areas of artistic expression with which students might not yet be acquainted.

Two sets of keys found at Adair Recycling Center

Two sets of keys have been recovered at the Adair County Recycling Center. Call 270-384-4703 or come by the Judge Executive's Office, Ste. 1, Adair Annex, 424 Public Square, Columbia, KY, to give a description and to pick up the keys.

Change in hours of operation at Recycling Center

Also, there has been a change to the hours of operation at the Recycling Center. The Center will now be open 7am-3pmCT Monday, Wednesday, and Friday and 7am-11amCT, Saturday.

The sign at the Recycling Center will be changed as soon as possible. --Andrea Waggener

ACHS hosts open house, Board meeting 16 Feb 2017

More than 50 ACHS students speak on impact of their clubs and organizations

A standing room only crowd at the Adair County High School library was treated to one of the more unique school board meetings in recent memory Thursday night. Students led tours of the school during the open house immediately preceding the meeting, and more than 50 ACHS students spoke to the board about their high school experiences.

"We have a very special presentation that's going to showcase all the different options we have available to us," said student board member Lauren McQuaide to start the meeting. McQuaide came up with the idea to host the meeting at ACHS and did a lot of the organizational legwork. "Personally, as a student board member, I've gained a lot of confidence in myself. I was intimidated at first, but I've learned to channel that."

Columbia Police arrest 33 year old in continuing drug sweep

Arrest is culmination of search over several weeks.

Columbia Police Department has arrested an Adair County man on drug trafficking charges. Brandon Burton, 33, of Columbia was located after officers had been searching for him for several weeks in reference to the department’s latest round of arrests involving the illegal trafficking of narcotics.

Burton was charged with Trafficking in a Controlled Substance, 1st Degree (Methamphetamine) and lodged in the Adair County Regional Jail. With this arrest the Columbia Police Department has charged 24 people since January with Trafficking in Controlled Substances.

FRANKFORT, KY (15 Feb 2017) - Joined by legislators and officials from local government, education and business associations, Gov. Matt Bevin ceremonially signed House Bill 3, which repeals the state law requiring payment of a set hourly base (prevailing) wage to workers on public works construction projects.

The prevailing wage is the wage set by government, which contractors and subcontractors must pay workers hired for public works projects (such as roads, buildings and sewers) that cost more than $250,000.
