Former Paintsville mayor sentenced for misusing city funds

Evidence presented at the trial established that, from 2009 until 2012, Porter, with the knowledge, approval and assistance of Larry Herald, the former general manager of the Paintsville Utilities Commission, did not pay for utilities services provided to residences that he owned in Paintsville. The total delinquency was in excess of $7,000. The evidence also revealed that Porter used thousands of dollars in city and federal funds to pay for personal expenses, such as maintenance and repairs on his personal automobiles, gasoline for personal trips, and shipping fees for personal items.

PIKEVILLE, KY (Fri 13 Jan 2017) - Former Paintsville Mayor, Robert Porter, has been sentenced to 48 months for misappropriating property and city resources.

On Thursday, U.S. District Judge Reeves sentenced Porter for misappropriating federal property belonging to a city that received substantial federal funding. Judge Reeves also ordered that Porter pay a $4,000 fine.

Mary Ann Bragg Jones, Adair Co., KY (1941-2017)

She was born in Adair County, KY. She was the daughter of the late Arvis Hilary & Eva Lawhorn Bragg and the widow of Delbert Jones. She professed faith in Christ and was a member of Prices Creek Baptist Church. Later in life, she also attended the Elk Horn United Methodist Church.

Austin Wayne Buckner, Taylor Co., KY (1939-2017)

He professed faith in Christ at a young age and was a member of Campbellsville Baptist Church. He retired from General Telephone and Electrics, and was also employed at Fruit of the Loom for several years. Wayne served his community for several years during his time with both the Fire Department and the Rescue Squad. He spent countless hours hunting and fishing with both friends and family.

Organist from the Cathedral of Christ the King to perform at CU

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. -- Campbellsville University will host Brian Hunt, organist/assistant director of music at the Cathedral of Christ the King in Lexington, Ky., in concert at 12:20 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 7 at Ransdell Chapel, 401 N. Hoskins Ave., Campbellsville, for the university's Noon Organ Recital Series.

The concert is free and open to the public and will end at 12:50 p.m. in time for those attending to return to work.

The series provides organ music from the 1894 Farrand and Votey Organ in Ransdell Chapel which is enlarged to 51 ranks by Moeller, Pilcher and Milnar Organ Companies.

Workshops will be offered from 12:15pm-1:15CT/1:15pm-2:30ET, on Fridays January 13, 20, and 27, and February 3, 10, and 24, and March 3 & 10, 2017, leading up to the state ACT testing day, Tuesday, March 21, 2017.

The workshops are free, and will be offered in the math, science and English/reading subject areas. The offices located in the Adair County Annex, 424 Public Square, Columbia, Ky. will be closed Saturday, January 14, 2017 and Monday, January 16, 2017 in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. This closure includes the following:
  • Judge Executive Michael Lee Stephens' office, Adair County Clerk Lisa Greer's office, the Adair County Sheriff's Dept., County Attorney Jennifer Hutchison-Corbin's office, the office of Jeff Feese, PVA, all in In the Adair Annex, 424 Public Square, Columbia, KY:
  • The Green River Animal Shelter, 455 Appleby Drive, Columbia, KY
  • and the Adair County Recycling Center, 32 Service Road, Columbia, KY.
  • The 911 Center, 107 N High Street, Columbia, KY, will be closed for the same time period, but will continue its 24-hour service for dispatching emergency calls.
