Youth Gardening/Youth Farmers Market Program Entrepreneurship program teaches production and marketing, with requirement that youth pariticipate in 2017 Youth Farmers Market planned for June-July-August 2017 Click on headline for complete story by Tony Rose News from Adair County Extension Service Beginning in February 2017 and continuing through the project year, the Adair County 4-H program will be conducting a Youth Gardening and Youth Farmers Market program. This program is open to 10 youth and is on a first come first serve sign up. Deadline to register for the program is February 3, 2017. Registration forms may be picked up at the Adair County Cooperative Extension Service, 409 Fairground Street, Columbia, KY. This Gardening and Youth Farmers Market project will give youth a chance to be involved in an entrepreneurship project. Selected youth will raise a vegetable garden. Youth will develop a plan for a garden project, types of materials for a garden, site preparation, seed or plant selection, raising a garden, and also the youth will be required sell part of their product at a Youth Farmer's Market. Participants must keep accurate records on expenses, income, and labor records. Participants will sell at least 50% of their products at a Youth Farmer's Market and the rest may be used by participant. The Youth Farmer's Market will start in June and continue at least until the middle part of August, 2017. Garden preparation will begin in March, April or May depending on the type of plants selected for the garden. Participants will attend an educational session on gardening and a farmer's market program. Youth will learn about marketing, pricing, and displaying their products. Garden sizes will be determined by the land available to the participant and what types of plants the participants would like to raise and sell.
