Nina Bradshaw Adams, 89, Breeding, KY native (d. 3 Jan 2017)

She was a native of Adair County, a member of a prominent family. She was the daughter of the late Oscar & Elsie Bradshaw, and the widow of Cecil Adam. She was an avid University of Virginia baseball fan and a lifetime member of the General Federation of Woman's Club, the Shadwell Chapter of the DAR and a lifetime member of the DOE Club. She was a Welcome Wagon hostess for many years. Her final resting place will be in her native Adair County.

A heads up: Mayor says downtown parking limits will be enforced

Mayor Curtis Hardwick asked the media to let citizens know that the Columbia Police Department will begin marking tires to enforce the two hour limit for parking spaces downtown.

"We've gotten a lot of complaints recently," he told those at the Columbia City Council meeting Tuesday, January 3, 2016.

Mayor Hardwick said that before the program begins, he wanted everyone to know.

ACHS Winter Cheer Exhibition Sat 7 Jan 2017

The ACHS Winter Cheer Exhibition will be presented Saturday, January 7, 2017, at the Adair County High School gym, 526 Indian Drive, Columbia, KY. Doors open at 10amCT and performances start at 10:30amCT. The ACHS Cheerleading squad will host and present their routine for the High Schools Nationals in front of hometown fans and supporters.The Dynamos All-Star teams from Russell Springs, KY, will also be performing their routines at the exhibition. LWC men's golf adds Callum Blinkhorn to 2017-18 roster

COLUMBIA, KY - The Lindsey Wilson men's golf team added Callum Blinkhorn for the 2017-18 season head coach Erick Wyrick announced on Wednesday.

Blinkhorn comes to Lindsey Wilson from Culcheth, England where he was the Culcheth High School Golfer of the Year. He also advanced to the second round of the 2016 British Boys Amateur Championship.

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. - Dr. Gerald Smith, pastor at Pilgrim Baptist Church in Lexington, Ky. and chair of the Kentucky African American Heritage Commission, will speak at Campbellsville University's Martin Luther King Jr. chapel service Wednesday, Jan. 18 at 10amET in Ransdell Chapel, 401 N. Hoskins Ave., Campbellsville.

Smith is an associate professor of African American history and the Martin Luther King Jr. Scholar-in-Residence at the University of Kentucky.

The latest license was issued an NQ Malt Beverage Package License, an NQ Retail Drink License, and a Special Sunday Retail Drink License for Sulphur Creed Resort, 3917 Sulphur Creek Road, Burkesville, KY. Bonita Humphrey, Brian Humphrey, and Mike Humphrey, are listed as owner of the business, which is on property owned by the Army Corps of Engineers/Department of the Army. The effective date for the license is February 1, 2017.

Lindsey Wilson Women's Golf signs Morgan Markwell for 2017-18

Markwell was named to the All-State Second Team and All-Region 11 Team in 2016 while also receiving All-Area Team honors for the fourth time in as many years. She also was champion of the Eastern Kentucky Conference in 2013-14.

Campbellsville Independent Schools' Family Resource and Youth Services Center will host volunteer training and orientation at 12:30pmCT/1:30pmCT. Thursday, January 19, 2017, at the FRYSC Center, Campbellsville High School, 230 W Main Street, Campbellsville, KY.

Topics covered will include confidentiality, etiquette and procedures. Background checks will be available at the event. To become a volunteer in the District, parents and caregivers must submit paperwork and attend a training session. After a background check is completed, parents can become eligible to volunteer during various school activities, field trips and classroom events. Few people today are aware of Dan "Captain Dan" Schroer, who early in the 20th century emigrated from Germany to the United States, made his mark in the Salvation Army and with the inhabitants of Columbia, and departed life entirely too young.

On his "Declaration of Intention" naturalization form, Daniel J. Schroer stated he was born January 11, 1887 in Mackenbach, Germany, arrived in the United States in early March 1907 (via Liverpool, England) aboard the ship Baltic, and disembarked at New York.

FRANKFORT, KY (Tue 3 Jan 2017) - Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes will advocate for bipartisan reforms in elections and business creation in the new session of the Kentucky General Assembly, she announced Tuesday. Lawmakers convened for the start of a 30-day legislative session this week.

Among Grimes' top priorities will be early voting and legislation to make it easier for veteran-owned businesses to get started.

Harrod promoted to Program Administrator, Re-Entry Branch

Kentucky Department of Corrections Deputy Commissioner Kim Potter-Blair today announced the promotion of Kristin Harrod to Program Administrator in the Re-Entry Branch. She assumed her new duties on January 2, 2017.

Mabel Sullivan, 90, Taylor Co., KY (1926-2017)

She was a retired bookkeeper with Sullivan Implement Company in Campbellsville, KY. She professed faith in Christ and was a member of the Mt. Roberts Baptist Church. She was a native of Taylor County, KY, and a resident of the county at the time of her death in Green County, KY. She was the daughter of the late Earl Skaggs and Mattie Matherly Skaggs, and the widow of Earl Sullivan, her husband of 39 years. She leaves six direct living descendants, spanning three generations.

COLUMBIA, Ky. - The Lindsey Wilson men's basketball team defeated Brescia 90-87 Tuesday night in Biggers Sports Center.

The Blue Raiders (12-5) had four players finish in double figures led by Charles Sutton who scored a game-high 28 points. Dmitry Utolin recorded his second double-double of the season with 20 points and grabbing a career-high 15 rebounds. Allen Costley chipped in with 11 points and Hannes Erhardt recorded 10 points.
