Adair School District may know Fri, 29 Jul 2016 if ROTC coming

Four year quest for ROTC appears likely to become a reality. Offering yet another career pathway for Adair County High School

There's been four years of effort to get an ROTC program at Adair County High School, and now, CM has learned from a reliable source that the District could learn by as early as Friday, July 29, 2016, if an Air Guard ROTC program will be authorized at Adair County High, with some participation for students at Adair County Middle School.

If the program is offered the District, the next step will be an Adair County High School Site Based Council meeting to consider requesting the creation of the position for the high school. Following that, the Adair County Board of Education would need to approve the position. Finally, a search for a qualified faculty member to head the program would undertaken.
Our understanding is that all systems are go, and that the program has the wind at its back and is very likely to become a reality very shortly - no more than days - after the beginning of the fall 2016 semester. We're hoping for additional details shortly. - EW

2016-07-26 - Knifley, Adair County, KY - Photo by Cheryl Stockton.
I'm looking for a small White female Jack Russell mix, extremely sweet. Her name is Shortbus, photo. I found out she was dropped her off in the Knifley area about two weeks ago, roughly 8 miles from the Green River Bait and Grocery in Egypt, Adair County, KY. PLEASE PLEASE help me find her. My concern is that I want her myself, but I will be happy knowing that she is in the loving home this wonderful little dog deserves. 502-592-5488 --Cheryl Stockton

Letter To The Editor from VFW Post Columbia 6097

It has been the pleasure and honor of the VFW to manage the County Fair and then provide the location for the Jaycees to manage it, when it became too much for us to handle as it should be. As with all things, time changes many things and we feel that that time for us to make a change is now. We would like to take this time to bring forward a few facts that pertaining to the selling of our property. Please remember we are a veterans organization, and this must be our first priority.
  1. Our only income has been our lease payment from the Jaycees/Adair Co Fair Board and shortly after the 2013 Fair a well respected member of the Jaycees came to use with a warning about the financial stability of that organization. As this was our only income, we inquired if LWC was still interested in our property. When LWC replied that they were, we informed officers of the Fair Board that we were going to talk with Lindsey about this matter and also told them we would keep them updated, which we have.

  2. The VFW purchased the property in 1946 and made a promise that it would be used for a County Fair for 50 years, this promise was fulfilled in 1996, then there has been another 20 years of fairs on this site.

  3. In 1998 the VFW voted and presented to the Jaycees a proposal to sell them, the Jaycees, the property for a total of $80,000 and the VFW would carry the note at no interest with a minimum payment of $3,000 annually until the note was paid off. The Jaycees rejected the proposal. The property now is valued at 8-10 times that amount.
We are not anti-County Fair, and hope the Fair Board can find an even better location and have great fairs in the future. By selling our real estate to Lindsey Wilson we have secured financial stability for our post for the next 200 years, and feel this is our responsibility as the current members of VFW 6097.

KYTC contract hit and injured on i65. attention to safety often ignored by motorist. The most effective action motorists can take to prevent a tragedy is to pay closer attention. This action can simply be to focus on driving rather than other activities while behind the wheel. Read and obey traffic signs instead of ignoring them. Lives depend on it.
