The Adair County Fiscal Court fulfilled some end of the fiscal year housekeeping items and approved a new member of the Columbia/Adair County Utilities District in a brief meeting this morning, Monday, June 27, 2016.

In a routine manner,the six magistrates present, Harold Burton (District 1), Daryl Flatt (2), Sammy Baker (3), Billy Dean Coffey (5), Greg Caldwell (6) and Terry Hadley (7), approved disbursements, budget transfers, and an affiliation agreement with the Adair County Search & Rescue Squad, and the 2016-2017 County Road Aid Resolution.

Edwin Blevins, 92, Taylor County, KY (1924-2016)

He professed faith in Christ and was a member of Good Hope Baptist Church. He was a retired farmer and was former owner and operator of B & B Landscaping. His wife, Nell Colvin Blevins, survives. He leaves seven direct and eight step living descendants.

Sam Hayes, 82 Taylor County, KY (1933-2016)

He was a retired employee of Parker Kalon. He always raised a big garden and shared produce with friends and neighbors and was a big "Kentucky" fan. His wife, Lois Richerson Hayes, survives. He leaves seven direct living descendants.

COLUMBIA, KY - Students, faculty and staff from Lindsey Wilson College's 26 community campuses gathered at the college's A.P. White Campus on Saturday, June 25, 2016, for the 15th-annual School of Professional Counseling Day.

The annual summer gathering attracted more than 250 people to Columbia-Adair County, who traveled as far as six hours for the day, which is a mix of academic and social events. The students, faculty and staff are part of LWC's School of Professional Counseling, which includes an undergraduate program in human services and counseling, a nationally recognized master's program in counseling and human development, and a doctoral program in counselor education and supervision.

Maury has homemade spray for Japanese Beetles

It may not work, but they sure don't like it

Bill made a mixture of dawn, water and a few drops of Listerine and when I see them on the plant I just spray them and then take them off the plant and crush them. Paul McCubbin, 92, Taylor Co., (1924-2016)

Paul McCubbin professed faith in Christ and was a member of First Cumberland Presbyterian Church. He was a retired Kentucky Alcohol, Beverage Control Officer and was a former Taylor County Sheriff. He was also a former employee of B & B Landscaping, President of the Jaycees and a farmer.

Paul McCubbin of Campbellsville, son of the late William Nathan McCubbin and Vanda Foster McCubbin, was born April 24, 1924, in Green County, Kentucky. He died at 3:55 A.M., Sunday, June 26, 2016 in Greensburg, KY. He was 92 years old.

Visitation will be from 4pm-7pmCT/5pm-8pmET, Wednesday, June 29, 2016 at Parrott & Ramsey Funeral Home, 418 Lebanon Avenue, Campbellsville, KY. Funeral service will be at 10amCT/11amET, Thursday, June 30, 2016 at Parrott & Ramsey Funeral Home, by Pastor Wayne Brooks. Burial will be in Brookside Cemetery, with full military honors by the Marion County Veterans Honor Guard.

LEBANON, KY. (Mon 27 Jun 2016) - Tpr. Logan Smith is investigating a collision that occurred Saturday, June 25, 2016, 5 miles north of Lebanon, KY on Bill Samuels Road, at approximately 8:15amET. 19-year-old Jacob C. Chadwell, of Danville, was operating a northbound 2015 Harley Davidson when he lost control of the motorcycle, left the roadway and struck an embankment. He was airlifted to University of Louisville Hospital where he remains in stable condition.

Lowell D. Lynn, Sr., 70, Casey Co., KY (1945-2016)

He was a native of Casey County, KY. He attended Wood High School in Indianapolis and received a degree in Pastoral Ministry from Union Bible College & Academy in Westfield. Lowell was also a preacher for over 20 years. Lowell was retired as the owner and operator of L.D. Lynn Electrical & Mechanical Services in Plainfield. Prior to that, he worked as a supervisor for Max Katz Bag Company in Indianapolis. Lowell attended the Gateway Chapel Bible Holiness Church in Martinsville, was member of the NRA and a proud Delegate for the Republican Party. He enjoyed reading his Bible, walking in the woods and was a collector of flashlights. Lowell enjoyed traveling and helping others. He worked many Missionary Trips and enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. His wife of 53 years, Gay Francis Murray Lynn, survives. He leaves 44 direct living descendants. Burial will be in his native Casey Co., KY.

LIBERTY, KY (Mon 27 Jun 2016) - 37-year-old Larry J. Buis, of Liberty, KY, was arrested on Saturday, June 26th at 10:53pmET, on KY 70 and charged with Assault 2nd Degree. The charges stem from an investigation into a fight that occurred at approximately 8:30pmET on June 25, 2016 at the Breedon Withers Grocery store in Casey County.

Maddie Brockman, 21, Boyle Co., KY (1994-2016)

Maddie was a "Free Spirit" who enjoyed life. She was a 2012 Graduate of Lincoln County High School. She formerly attended Morehead State University where she was a member of the Sigma Sigma Sigma Sorority. She also attended the Lindsey Institute of Cosmetology. Maddie just recently graduated from the Durham Beauty School. She was a member of the Hustonville Baptist Church.

EDMONTON, KY - (Mon 27 Jun 2016)-- 57-year-old Timothy McCoy, of Edmonton, KY, was arrested today at 2:57amCT on McCoy Witty Road, 1 mile west of Wisdom, KY. He was charged with Assault 1st Degree and Tampering with Physical Evidence regarding a shooting incident that occurred on Sunday, June 26, at approximately 11:14pmCT at 7605 Glasgow Road.

The victim, 62-year-old Jerry Ferguson, of Edmonton, sustained a gunshot wound to the foot and was taken to University of Louisville Hospital for treatment. McCoy was lodged in the Barren County Jail, Glasgow, KY. Tpr. Charles Hedgespeth is investigating.

Students named to the President's List earned a 4.0 grade point average on a 4.0 and attempted at least 12 credit hours during the semester. Students named to Dean's List earned at least a 3.50 graduate point average on a 4.0 scale and attempted at least 12 credit hours during the semester. We have had very steady attendance thanks in large part to the great teaching staff we have this year.

Lou Ann Coomer, Christina Ferguson, Lisa Hayes, Jennifer Perkins, Pam Phipps and Samantha Rich have done an outstanding job keeping students engaged in math, reading, science and social studies.

Adair County Fair Factoid I: Established in March, 1856

At least two fairs predate the Civil War

The Columbia Fairgrounds Association of Adair County was established in March 1856 with a capital stock of $3,000, with shares of $25 each. This was an effort for a semi-annual agricultural fair. At least two fairs are thought to have taken place before the beginning of the Civil War began.
