Alta Carroll Lavigne, Taylor County, KY (1920-2015)

She professed faith in Christ and was a member of ElkHorn Baptist Church where she taught the Ladies Sunday School Class for fifty-two years. She retired after some thirty-five years as a teacher with the Campbellsville Independent School System. She was a native of Russell County, KY, and a resident of Taylor County, KY at the time of her death. She was the daughter of the late Leo Vernon Christman and Mary Mae Gaskins Christman. Her final resting place will be in Taylor County, KY.

She had retired from Fruit of the Loom and was a caregiver. She was a member of Cedar Springs United Baptist Church. She was a native of Casey County, KY, and a resident of Russell County, KY at the time of her death. She leaves four direct living descendants and many relatives in this area and beyond.

Assistant District Governor, Jeff Shuffett of the Greensburg Rotary International Club attended the Columbia meeting in Columbia recently, to discuss new and ongoing Rotary projects and membership ideas. A top priority of Rotary International remains the eradication of Polio. Giant strides have been made in partnership with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

The. Columbia Rotary Club meets the second and fourth Mondays, 6pmCT at the Cramner Dining Center, 430 Helen Flatt Drive, Columbia, KY, on the Lindsey Wilson College campus. The next meeting is August 24, 2015. Anyone interested in learning more about the club is invited to attend any meeting. - Ellen Zornes

One driver injured in two vehicle collision in C-ville

From Campbellsville Police Department

On Saturday, August 15, 2015, at 9:30amET, the Campbellsville Police Department responded to an automobile collision with injuries at the intersection of Broadway and Columbia Avenue.

A 2000 Dodge pickup operated by 41 year old Kevin L. Munday of Campbellsville, KY, collided with a 1995 Ford pickup being operated by 53 year old Edna F. Shreve of Mannsville.

Shreve was transported to Taylor Regional Hospital for treatment by Campbellsville Taylor County EMS. A passenger in the Munday vehicle, 1 year old Avery Munday was not injured.

Officer Bart Gilpin of the Campbellsville Police Department was the investigating officer. Agencies involved were the Campbellsville Police, Campbellsville/Taylor County EMS, and Campbellsville Fire/Rescue.

Single vehicle accident takes life of Campbellsville woman

A single vehicle accident on KY 744/Newton Lane, Campbellsville, KY, has taken the life of a 47 year old driver, Jane Mumford "Janie" Beams, of Hodgenville Road, Campbellsville, KY.

Beams was driving east in a 2009 Nissan on Newton Lane when she failed to negotiate a curve, exited the left side of the roadway, and struck a tree. Taylor County Deputy Coroner Judy Dabney pronounced Ms. Beams dead at the scene. The accident occurred at approximately 1pmCT, Fri 14 Aug 2015.

Taylor County Fire and Rescue assisted the Taylor County Sheriff's Office at the scene. TCSO Officers Dickie Benningfield and Brandon Wilson investigated the accident.

Third Sunday homecoming in Sulphur Well begins today

The annual homecoming tradition in Sulphur Well, KY referred to when I grew up there as "Third Sunday in August" begins today in the park with a pageant, entertainment, food booths and arts and crafts. And of course, there will be music!

More than two dozen international students at LWC fall 2015

Columbia, KY - More than two dozen new Lindsey Wilson College international students were officially welcomed to Columbia-Adair County Thursday afternoon. The students -- who represent almost a dozen countries -- attended an orientation program in the afternoon, followed by a pizza party in the Cralle Student Union Building, sponsored by Pizza Hut of Columbia.

A total of more than 100 international students from more than 40 countries will be enrolled this school year at Lindsey Wilson. New residential students will arrive on campus Saturday morning, followed by returning residential students on Sunday. The liberal arts college’s 2015 fall semester begins Wednesday, Aug. 19.
