AC Early Childhood Council receives funding for school readiness

Data shows nearly 63% of students entering Kindergarten in Aidar County in 2014 were considered Not Ready for School
The Adair County Early Childhood Council will meet Monday, August 17, 2015 at 6pmCT, at the Adair County Public Library, 307 Greensburg Street, Columbia. All interested persons are invited to attend Contact council chairperson, Paula Garrison at 270-384-9752.

The Adair County Early Childhood Council (ACECC) is pleased to report receiving an $8,900 grant from the Governor's Office of Early Childhood to address early childhood needs in the Adair County community. The ACECC is comprised of community volunteers from the local school district, public library, Headstart, child care centers and other groups or individuals with an interest in early childhood issues.

David Ray Gibbs, 42, Campbellsville, KY (d, 6 Aug 2015)

He was a Sergeant with the Kentucky State Police, assigned to KSP Post 15, Columbia, KY. He had been a Kentucky State Policeman for 18 years and was scheduled to be promoted to Lieutenant. He was a member of the KSPPA. He is survived by his parents, Randy and Carolyn Gibbs and he loved his dog Murphy, who always had a smile for him.

Sgt. David Ray Gibbs, 42 of Campbellsville, died Friday, August 7, 2015 as a result of an auto accident. He was a native of Hardin County, served in the U.S. Army Reserves and was a member of Rineyville Baptist Church.

The funeral will be Tuesday, August 11, 2015 at 12pmNoonCT/1pmET, at Severns Valley Baptist Church, 1100 Ring Road, Elizabethtown, KY, with Rev. Jerry Shacklette and Rev. Raymond Ward officiating. Burial will follow in Rineyville Cemetery, Rineyville, KY. Visitation will begin at 3pmCT/4pmET, Monday and continue after 8amCT/9amET, Tuesday at Brown Funeral Home, 306 College Street, Elizabethtown, KY.

Mysetta Montgomery, 91, Green County, KY (1924-2015)

She had made a profession of faith in Christ and was a member of the Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church. She was a clerk for several years at the Corner Drug Store in Greensburg, KY. She was a native of Green County, KY and a resident of the county at the time of her death. She was the daughter of the late Vester Pierce and Nettie Perkins Pierce, and the widow of Eugene Montgomer, her husband of over 45 years. She leaves two direct living descendants.

Eudora Cooper, 86, Russell Springs, KY (1928-2015)

She was a homemaker and a member of Salem United Baptist Church. She was native of Russell County, KY, a resident of the county at the time of her death, and will be laid to rest in Russell County at Salem Cemetery. She was the daughter of the late John Elliott & Vonnie Lee Popplewell Humble. She is survived by her husband, James Cooper. She leaves eight direct living descendants.

We can do the same thing in Columbia but it takes leadership, cooperation, dedication and hard work.

We, the Homeplace on Green River and Tebbs Bend Nature and Recreation Area, just dedicated 5+ miles of trail located just over in Taylor County. It was a $160,000 project of which $80,000 was a grant.

Taylor County Judge Executive, Eddie Rogers found out about the grant opportunity and asked me and others if we would help him to put together the figures needed to make the application. After many hours of research and meetings with individuals with expertise in various fields we made the application and was ultimately successful.
