There is a significant reason why the Historical Marker is in this location on the corner of Greensburg Street and the Public Square. The house once on this corner lot, though not on the very corner, built by Benjamin Lampton about 1814 or within the next year or so, was the girlhood home of Jane Lampton and her sister, Martha, daughters of Benjamin Lampton and Peggy Casey. Later, this house and the brick storehouse next door, closer to the Square, were sold and the house, which came to be known as the Pink Cottage, was used for many years as an office for several physicians, including Dr. Nathan Gaither, Dr. Samuel B. Field, and Dr. Melvin Rhorer. The Pink Cottage was removed later and some of the bricks were used in the construction of the house still standing, to the rear of the old Drug Store. There is much history on this corner; Jane Lampton certainly played on the very spot where this marker is located. --Mike Watson

Dear Editor, Rodney Burris is mistaken. Kynect is NOT providing health insurance for the "non-providers." It is covering countless employees who show up for work day in and day out and work 40 or more hours a week, but can't afford health insurance because their employer pays them $7.25 per hour or only slightly better. I know of many such individuals. Compound this with what these employees also receive in other benefits such as food stamps and I would hope Mr. Burris would (along with so many others) support raising the minimum wage and $15 an hour, which most unbiased economists have shown to be revenue neutral. Well, I have the ObamaCare Ins. and I pay for it. The first six months I paid $477.00 a month, then it dropped down to $369 this year per month. Now if one is on a fixed income and you drawn more money and it keeps you from Medicaid then where R people suppose to get insurance from? I understand where you are coming from but what are people that are on disability suppose to do for insurance when they do not qualify for Medicare yet and draw too much for Medicaid? --Mary Ann Brown
