Another citizen whose directness makes her overqualified for political office

Jon Halsey writes:
Another citizen whose straight forward directness makes her over qualified for political office. This was a well written and obviously heartfelt insight to a world few of us know or ever consider. I'm sure that medics, law enforcement and fire fighters are nodding their heads in total understanding and agreement. - Jon Halsey, Knifley

Likes First Lady's approach: Plant. Harvest. Eat

Ed Pipalski writes:
Kudos to Mrs. Beshear and the UK Department of Agriculture!

This is how we truly provide Supplemental Nutritional Assistance to the underprivileged and those in temporary distress; "Plant, Harvest, Eat", love it! No reason supplemental support cannot be scaled back after one-full years growing season on a path to self-sufficiency.

Perhaps we could clear out the jail (a taxpayer liability) of those having failed to provide monetary support for their children by imposing a working sentence of community crop production (a taxpayer asset). Sentence fulfilled once eighteen years of groceries have been produced, harvested and stored or the appropriate monetary support can be provided.

Hope the U.S. Department of Agriculture catches on and gets back into the agricultural production business, both large and small, instead of subsidizing J.P. Morgan Chase Bank, giant corporate grocery chains and the truck industry by simply transferring wealth to them through the Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program from the American worker. --Ed Pipalski

Grandmother is hoping that just maybe, someone will know: Where's Molly?

It's been two months since Molly jumped out of an open vehicle and ran away through the Walmart Parking Lot. Ads with her picture have been running since, with no results. Joanne Held is hoping - almost against hope - that someone will respond. Three little boys are heartbroken, and the youngest still asks, "Where's Molly." It's a long shot, but occasionally a dog is reunited with it' owners after this long.

By Joanne Held

"Where's Molly?"

I was hoping that by now my two year old grandson would have forgotten about her.

His brothers, four and six, have given up asking, until the little one reminds them.

29 mins: A 9-1-1 Dispatcher tells what it's really like

"Yes, I have become jaded and more than likely burned out on this job. It is very easy to do, but I still love it. Despite the pay being less than your local McDonald's manager, the politics, and you being the pawn, and someone always knowing how to do your job better than you even though they have never set on that side of the phone and radio console; it's the feeling of being there for someone when no one else is.' - KRYSTAL REDMON, an Adair 9-1-1 Dispatcher, still happy she "Bought the ticket"

There will be school in Adair Co. today - but wind is a factor.

Parents reminded to dress students for frigid temperature, with hats, gloves, warm coats. Layers of clothing work best, with no openings for drafts, are best protection.
See CM EVENTS for school closings today in Casey, Clinton, Cumberland, and Russell Counties + One hour Delay Metcalfe County, as of 6:33amCT and for later updates

A message from Superintendent Alan W. Reed

While 55S in Russell County has some slick spots, our roads in Adair County pose no hazard to buses. The story this morning is the thermometer! We are starting out with lows in the teens so make sure to dress your children in multiple layers this morning.

Gusting winds will be the rule all day today, so make sure heads are covered, coats are worn and that kids keep their hands covered with some warm gloves. Again, the wind chill will be a factor all day today, so make sure to dress students warmly in layers.

Camp Boyle was on Campbellsville Road at the Barbee place

Comments re article 71264 Wants to know location of Camp BoyleCamp Gilbert

By Mike Watson
Adair County Historian

Camp Boyle was across Russell Creek, outside of town, on highway 55 north. There was a movement about a year ago to raise funds for a Kentucky Historical roadside marker, probably to be placed near the former Barbee BBQ locale.

I think this project fell through the proverbial cracks with several other movements going on at the time.

I would still like to see this marker project materialize. Bro. Paul Patton and I agreed to write text for a two-sided marker. Several pledges were made. Shall we try to revive this much-needed local history project? - Mike Watson

Mike: I think the commitments reached around $700. We're still in; hope others will commit and re-commit. It's so easy to forget. - EW
