This week in the Pines' Men's League, Thursday, May 29, 2014, we played using the Trifecta format. Each two-man team played 6 holes of scramble format, 6 holes of alternate shot format, and 6 holes of best ball format. Winston Moore and Bobby Loy came in first place, with an 18 hole score of -4 (67). Dr. Anthony Grant and Bob Sawyers came in 2nd place with an 18 hole score of +2 (73). The Men's League will be held again this Thursday, June 5, 2014, at 9amCT. - CHRIS LEWIS

Edna Lee Crump Scott, Green County, KY (1922-2014)

She was a native of Hart County, KY, and a resident of Greensburg, KY, at the time of her death. She was the widow o Shire Franklin Scott. She leaves 7 Direct living descendants.She had made a profession of faith in Christ and was a member of the Aetna Grove Baptist Church. She was a former machine operator for Fruit of the Loom, Inc. a homemaker, and was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.

Mrs. Frances Morine Hopper Brown, Cumberland Co., KY (1947-2014)

She was a member of the Christian Church and the Church of Christ in Port Charlotte, Florida. She was a very accomplished woman. She was a well-gifted seamstress, knitter and crocheter, winning several coveted awards. She was a talented artist and served as a Staff Artist at Missions Services in Kempton, Indiana for a few years. She was a homemaker and a marvelous cook who could do everything. She was a native of Cumberland County, KY, and a resident of Charlotte County, FL, at the time of her death. She is survived by her husband, Larry Brown. She leaves 11 direct living descendants.

The front page of the June 3, 1914 Adair County News carried one article that perhaps should have been bordered in black - the announcement the paper would no longer publish obituaries free of charge Stated this stark write-up, in part,

"Obituaries are of interest only to the family and near relatives of the deceased, and we can not afford to give space free for such character of reading. Hereafter we will accept obituaries at 5 cents per printed line."

SOMERSET, KY (May 31, 2014) Beginning Monday, June 2, KY 80 in Adair County will be reduced to one lane starting at mile Marker 22.8 (Adair-Russell County line) and ending at mile marker 13 (KY 55 - in Columbia at intersection of Russell Road and Jamestown Street) as crews begin pavement improvements.

Anyone who would like to have a microchip inserted in their pet can bring it to the Square in Downtown Columbia, today, Saturday, May 31, 2014. We will also have low cost spay/neuter certificates for dogs and cats as well as some pets available for adoption. Lindsey Wilson Women's Golf Team No. 20 in national Poll

COLUMBIA, KY - The Lindsey Wilson women’s golf team is ranked No. 20 in the NAIA Coaches’ Postseason Top 25 Poll, the national office announced on May 30, 2014. The Blue Raiders received 161 total voting points from the head coaches that make up the panel. Mid-South member Cumberlands (KY) also resides in the poll at No. 5 after receiving 407 total voting points. Campbellsville sits just outside the poll after receiving 59 total points. Adair Sheriff's Deputies BJ Bray and Adam Cravens responded to a two vehicle collision five miles down East KY 80 on Friday, May 30, 2014.

The accident is believed to have occurred after Ashley Crawhorn, 20, of Columbia crossed the yellow line into opposing traffic in her 2006 Chevy Cobalt before meeting and colliding with a garbage truck being driven by Chester Taylor, 59 also of Columbia, KY.

Diageo to Build Full-scale Bourbon Distillery in Shelby County

Global distiller plans to purchase nearly 300 acres, invest $115 million. Plant will create approximately 30 jobs. Shelby County has also been certified by the Kentucky Workforce Investment Board as a Work Ready Certified Community
