Click on headline for article, photo(s)

By Steve Burton

On November 1st, the Adair County High School Boy's Golf Team concluded their fantastic season with their Golf Banquet at Lindsey Wilson's Cranmer Dining Center. The Indians celebrated their season accomplishments which included: Varsity Record of 19-1, Jr. Varsity Record of 10-0-1, Heartland Conference Runner-Up, Regional Runner-Up, and their Record Making 10th Place finish in the State Tournament.

Coach's Comments - Words can't describe how proud I am of these young men. They are outstanding young golfers, however, they are even better young men and students. This year was very sweet for us, in the fact that, no one expected us to accomplish what we did. As a coach, there is nothing more satisfying than watching your kids grow and progress throughout the year. They, simply, did everything and more that I asked of them. This bunch will forever hold a special place in memory lane for me. - Coach Steve Burton

Egyptian woolly worm predicts far different winter from 1 at Tucker's Station

Comments re: Tucker's Station Wooly Worm has made prediction

By Paul Patton

Just a short distance away from Bull Run Road's woolly worm prediction of a mild winter, one such creature in front of the Egypt Christian Church gives a different warning about the coming winter.

According to the almanac there are 13 weeks of winter and there are 13 body segments to the woolly worm, including the head and the weather is to be predicted according to the color of the worm starting with the head.

A few days ago I examined a woolly worm crossing the road in front of the Egypt church. It's head and the next 3 body sections were dark black, indicating that the winter will begin with severe weather.

These were followed by 6 light colored body sections indicating a break in the weather with mild temperatures. The next three sections of the worm were dark indicating three more weeks of severe winter.

Sorry that I didn't photograph the worm. After all is said, I guess we will just have to wait and see.

Larry Smith - Patchy fog is thick as brick on KY 55

Larry Smith has just completed the commute to the WAVE, FM 92.7, down KY 55 and reports that patchy dense fog is about the worst he's ever seen. He says he had to slow to 30-35 mph along the way. "I want everyone to really be careful if they are traveling between Columbia and Campbellsville this morning. It's a pretty risky business this morning."

Smith counted the fogs in August. There were 6 thick ones, two lesser ones, which means, he said, that there will be 6 significant, school closing snows if on school days, and 2 dustings this coming winter.

The prediction is a bit in conflict with those who rely on Wooly Worm Meteorology, who say the coming winter will be a mild one.

Simple 1-2 step way to send events to ColumbiaMagazine.com

Simple 1-2 step way to send events to ColumbiaMagazine.com

A number of contributors have adopted a submission procedure with has streamlined posts to the CM Events calendar. It's a simple 1-2 method:
1) Copy and Edit (Make the changes needed to fit your Event.) from one of CM online Events posts. They are edited to say it the way we say it and the way we post it - in the exact sequence, style, content, even the spacing we use. Small things matter, like the way we say a time and date ("5amCT/6amET, Saturday, October 20, 2012"). This is the way we say time, day, month day and year on the site.

After making the changes:

2) Copy and Send, "Special to ColumbiaMagazine.com" addressed only and exclusively (submissions with multiple addressees or through third parties are filter and likely won't make it online) to edwaggener@gmail.com
Because of the time savings to ColumbiaMagazine.com, submissions handled in this manner are given a higher priority in the queue. If a submission is not posted within two hours, call 270-250-2730. Thanks. - Ed Waggener
