Special CM Sports Story

The ACHS Boy's traveled to Bowling Green Country Club on Saturday, September 8, 2012 to compete in the Bowling Green Invitation Tournament. The Indians came away with an impressive 8th Place finish with a score of 340 while battling the tough playing conditions.

Riley Grant led the Indians with an outstanding round of 81. Korey Hundley and Alex Durham carded rounds of 85, and Trey Garmon and Daniel Rarey each turned in rounds of 89.

Coach's Comments: Wow, what a tough day. This was the toughest playing conditions that I have ever seen a tournament played in. The course was playing tougher than any course I have seen and on top of that, our kids battled the wind and rain all morning. It is an honor just to get invited to play in this tournament, but to finish 8th is outstanding for us. The best the state had to offer were there and we hung in there with them.

Next Match: The Adair County Boys Golf team will be competing at Lincoln Homestead State Park, Lincoln Homestead State Park, 5079 Lincoln Park RD, Springfield, KY on Tuesday, September 11, KY in the Heartland Conference Tournament. Tee times start at 8:40amCT. Coach Steve Burton

ACES pre-school student loses life last night in mobile home fire

From Alan W. Reed

I regretfully want to report that one of our pre-school students at Adair County Elementary School lost his life in a house fire in Russell County last evening. Mr. Robbie Harmon, Principal at ACES and Ms. Brenda Mann, our Director of student services called me within minutes of each to report this tragedy.

Apparently Hector Curry spent the night with a friend in Russell County following a birthday party.

Shortly after 9pmCT, the Russell County Fire Department was called to a mobile home fire across from the fairgrounds.

They were unable to reach either Hector or his friend due to the heat and intense smoke. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families.

Full obituary information will be posted when received - CM

Poetry by Robert Stone: Where you draw the line

Where you draw the line
- a sonnet reflecting on a Rumi quotation: "Do not feel lonely, the entire universe is inside you"
The entire universe is inside you,
the poet says and will not grant me leave
to feel a separated point of view.
Do not feel lonely, ask more and receive.

The who you are depends on where you draw
the line between the other and yourself.
To set on what you see, not what you saw,
requires rechoosing daily for your shelf.

Accumulations of the past can bulk
within your line and none will come inside.
But fast dash down the unexpected sulk
with forward looks and more will join your ride.

Expecting too much closeness lonely waits
and never loves the fearful at the gates.

- Robert Stone, 9 September 2012

Lorene Martens suggests FindaGrave.com for cemetery search

REUNIONS/HOMECOMINGS/GENEALOGY

Lorene Martens writes:
There is a site on the Internet called FindaGrave.com. It has a lot of information on it. You can search by cemetery name or the name of the person. Royse Cemetery is listed with a list of 22 graves. It does not give the directions to the cemetery, but it lists the person who went to the cemetery and listed all the graves and you can contact that person by email. She would know how to find the cemetery. There are pictures of a lot of headstones. I found my great-grandfathers headstone. I can also see my grandparents headstones. It is very interesting. You can also add information that you know about people. --Lorene Martens

Dog Found at corner of Burkesville & Tutt Streets, Columbia, KY

Barbara Murrell writes:
I have a little dog that has come to my yard. It is very friendly and has a collar with no tags. It is small, short haired, has a brown and white face, and is darker colored in the back. I'm sure it's someone's pet because it is not afraid of people. I live at the corner of Tutt St. and Burkesville Street, Columbia, KY, which is a busy intersection and I'm afraid it's going to get hit. Genealogist says Royse Cemetery on Edgar Royse Farm

Lila Ford writes:
I have looked in our cemetery books and the Royse Cemetery is in book #3. The only directions it gives is this "Located on the Edgar Royse Farm within site of 206." We show 21 there. The last one to be buried there is Mollie Royse in July of 1984. If anyone knows where this farm is we would appreciate their letting us know so we can add it to our records. --Lila Ford

Click on headline for album from the 2012 Fall Festival

George Kolbenschlag took some great photos of a very memorable 6th Annual Homeplace on Green River Fall Festival, held on what started out as a very rainy Saturday, September 8, 2012.

The rain did cause attendance in the morning to dip, but later in the day, as the skies cleared and the sun came out, attendance zoomed.

The Homeplace on Green River, at 5807 New Columbia Road, Campbellsville, KY, is almost dead center in the middle of Taylor, Green and Adair Counties.

Chuck Hinman, IJMA No. 082: Freddie, the Tallgrass Fly

It's Just Me Again No. 082, was written 5 August 2008. Because prestigious Tallgrass Estates insisted that even a designer swatter had no place in a dining room purposed for gracious living a Freddie was a protected species until vigilante justice was carried out.

Yes, prestigious Tallgrass Estates is home to a common housefly. He has lived here long enough that he is known as Freddie by some of the long-time residents whom he visits at meal tine. He (I'm assuming his gender) has been sighted at several tables on the east side of the dining room. He has not been seen anywhere except the dining room.

Sparky's 2nd Annual Crusade Concert sets new record

Beautiful fall weather, great performers push total for event to $5,000.

By Charlie Crawhorn Event Chairman, Sparky's 2nd Annual Crusade Concert

Great Turnout. I counted over 350 people here at one time during the Sparky's concert event Saturday, September 8, 2012. We raised a little over $5,000 for the WHAS Crusade for Children. That, of course, sets a new record, topping last year's $4,200 by almost 20%.

Big thanks to all the support from our great community.

- Charlie Crawhorn

Thanks, Charlie Crawhorn, for the report. What a fine tribute to an Adair County hero. What a fine way for people to enjoy the beautiful facilities at the Adair County Fairground. -EW
