Ella Maxine Morgan Lacy, Louisville, KY (1920-2012)

She was a native of Lincoln, Nebraska, but moved to the Glensfork, Adair County, KY, when she was very young. She was a member of a highly regarded Adair County family, and the mother of Bill and Gerald Lacy. She attended Yellow Hammer Elementary School, Glensfork High School and Columbia High School. She graduated from San Diego State College in San Diego, California. Before her retirement, she was employed as an Assistant Controller and Assistant Secretary/Treasurer for University Mechanical Engineers Constructors in San Diego, California for 32 years. She was a recipient in San Diego, California of the 1998 YMCA Tribute to Women in Industry Award - for professional women who have made a significant contribution to their companies and communities. She was a member of the University Christian Church, SanDiego, CA. She moved to Louisville, KY in 2004 where her youngest son and his family lived.She enjoyed playing the piano, working crossword puzzles and reading.

Adair County Sheriffs Department makes two meth arrests

An Adair County man, Robin Morrison, 30, 214 Bridgeport Circle, Columbia, KY, was arrested by Sheriff Harrison Moss and Deputy Aaron Rainwater.

The arrest was made Monday, June 25, 2012 after attempting to serve a warrant of arrest on Morrison, during which the police discovered numerous items in the residence commonly used in manufacturing methamphetamines.

Martha Collins Bell, 80, Adair Co., KY (1931-2012)

She was a member of a distinguished, highly regarded Adair County, KY family. She was a graduate of Columbia High School and received an Associate Degree from Lindsey Wilson College. She was a member of Columbia Christian Church and was office manager for the Adair County Water District for many years.

Campbellsville Police arrest driver who damaged sally-port at jail

Driver reportedly drove his vehicle into the Taylor County Regional Jail overhead doors used by police to deliver prisoners to the jail. Elwin F. Hardin, 71, arrested on DUI, criminal mischief and wanton endangerment charges and lodged in the Taylor County Regional Jail

Traffic update: Work may slow traffic on KY 55, Broadway

KY 55 between Columbia and Campbellsville will have flaggers because of repaving. Lane closures will occur on US 68 (Broadway) in Campbellsville

  • Taylor County - KY 55 - Lane closures. MP 0 - 5 (From Adair/Taylor County line to approximately KY 1701). Resurfacing work will require flaggers to close a lane in the work zone. Alternating traffic will be allowed to pass on the single lane. Short stops are possible. Completion of this work is expected by end of this week.

  • Taylor County - US 68 - Lane closures. MP 5-7 (Through Campbellsville - From approximately KY 323 to KY 1799)

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. - A book honoring those from Taylor County who served during the Korean Conflict will be unveiled on Wednesday, July 4 from 1pm-3pmET/12pm noon - 2pmCT Carter Hall, 112 University Drive, Campbellsville, KY, on the campus of Campbellsville University.

The book, written by Department of Mass Communication students at the university, features the stories of 11 veterans. They are Gene Hall, Jack Hamlin, Wilburn Hedgespeth, David L. Henderson Sr., Floyd Jump, Melvin Doug Martin, William E. Newcomb, Ralph Coomer, Alan Humphress, Richard Page and William "Bill" Spears.

Gov. Beshear holds bill signing for new rules for metal recyclers

Legislation creates more accountability for sellers and buyers; aim is to cut down on thefts.

LOUISVILLE, KY - Metal recyclers in Kentucky will soon be required to register and keep records of their purchases under legislation sponsored by Rep. Tanya Pullin (D - South Shore), which becomes law July 12, 2012.

During a ceremonial signing of House Bill 390 today at the Louisville Metro Police Department's Third Division, Gov. Steve Beshear said the bill will ensure that recyclers are not inadvertently receiving stolen metal such as copper, brass, aluminum, bronze, lead or zinc.

I have never been a member of the Kentucky Historical Society. I'm not bragging. In fact, I am a bit ashamed of the fact. The Society does good works -- too myriad to mention here. Their journal is a great resource for those interested in Kentucky history.

Ann Matera came into The Bookstore on her way from the post office the other day and dropped a 2006 issue of The Register of the Kentucky Historical Society on the round table with some remark that it was too big to read. One reason I haven't joined the society is that she lets me read her copies of The Register.
