There was never anything or anybody like PaPa

A tribute to: Joe George at 80

By Jodi Momanyi

Joe George is my Grandfather, or as I call him, my "PaPa."

I remember many times from when I was younger, I would run straight to him when I didn't want to go to school. I grew up right next door to my grandparents, so it wasn''t hard to find backup.

I'd go in and say, "Papa, I don't want to go to school today. I want to sit and talk with you on the CB radio"

Is there any Adair Co. organization preserving historic schools?

About: Scenic Adair Co KY Old Prices Creek One Room Schoolhouse

By Faye Brown Bault

It was very exciting to see the picture of the old Prices Creek School on Columbia Magazine.com.

Starting in 1923, my mother, Merle Coomer Brown, taught her first two years of school there. She was only 18 years old,and traveled by horse and buggy or by horseback each day. That was 86 years ago.

Since this is a landmark to many people, it would be nice to preserve this historical site. Does anyone know of any organization of any kind to help in the preservation?

I will continue the research for more information from some of my mother's material or pictures about Prices Creek School.
Thanks. We hope you'll share other information about Prices Creek School or any other old school in the county. Right now, the organization working to preserve the Adair County Courthouse appears to be developing into the type of organization you are hoping to see. -EW
