There was never anything or anybody like PaPa

A tribute to: Joe George at 80

By Jodi Momanyi

Joe George is my Grandfather, or as I call him, my "PaPa."

I remember many times from when I was younger, I would run straight to him when I didn't want to go to school. I grew up right next door to my grandparents, so it wasn''t hard to find backup.

I'd go in and say, "Papa, I don't want to go to school today. I want to sit and talk with you on the CB radio"

>
He'd then say, "Well, honey, you don't have to. I'll go talk to your momma" Then he'd go tell my mom I was sick, knowing there wasn''t a thing wrong with me.I would then sit on his lap all day and talk to his friends on the CB That was until it was time for General Hospital.

We would go watch that while he peeled potatoes for the evening supper.

I've always remembered how they smelled along with the cornbread he'd fix.

My PaPa has always been more of a father to me than a grandfather. There has never been nothing or nobody like him, nor will they ever be.

I Love You Papa. -Jodi
