Birthday Wishes to Jean (Granny) Holmes

Tony George writes:
I would love to wish my grandmother a Happy 67th birthday. This fine lady raised four children, turned them into great people one of which is my mother. I can remember when my granny and I would go pick blackberries. She has 6 grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren. I'm her first grand daughter and am glad that this women is my grandmother. I can honestly say that she has to be the greatest granny on earth. On this day I only hope she has the greatest day ever, because she has showed me so many great things and showed all of us so much love. So Happy Birthday granny I love you so very much, and think you for standing by me threw all the heartaches of my life. I love you Jean.

Memorable Old Columbia, KY: Madison and Reed

2009-07-17 - Madison Alley, at Reed Streets - Photo by Pen.
A familiar background, faintly, with a not so familiar street name in the foreground. It's also one of the few, if not the only streets in Columbia with street numbers or "Madison Alley" addresses in its two block, total, length from Reed Street to Monroe Street, although, one block away, one of Columbia's best recognized building names, Madison Square, also honors the nation's fourth President. It is bounded by Burkesville, East Fortune, and South Reed Streets.

We should treat our town with same respect we give our homes

"We are blessed to live in such a great country and nice town. Let's respect it and keep it clean and beautiful" -JENNIFER REDFORD
GUEST COMMENT

By Jennifer Redford

I was on my way to work this morning and was stopped at the stoplight in town on KY 55 just before you get to the Square.

While I was waiting the woman in front of me threw her cigarette out the window.

I could not help but be offended.

A Tribute to Joe George at 80

The Creelsboro, Russell Co., KY native courted an Adair County girl on Melson Ridge, the love of his life, Anna Louise Helm. He won her heart, married her, and they had 56 years together with a closeknit family. They shared love through hard times and tragedy, but enjoyed more good times, as well. Today, in retirement, he still wears that wonderful smile, enjoys playing bingo with his friends at Ol Homeplace in Columbia, and gets a kick out of hearing his name called on the radio station when they play his favorite Gospel hymns, dedicated to Joe George.
