ACSO plans arrests in alleged pit bull animal cruelty case

Six adult dogs, five puppies taken from Sherry Trace Road; neighbors said animals were getting attention only every couple of days; influx of the big dogs, which require separate kenneling, resulted in some expediting of euthanizations at G.R.A.S. Sheriffs are still investigating to determine if dogfighting involved. Local animals rights advocate worries about stigma, in light of Michael Vick case

Arrests are planned in the case of 11 pit bulls taken from property on Sherry Trace Road, a narrow road off Gentry Mill Road in eastern Adair County. The dog round up took place on Thursday, September 13, 2007, according to Deputy Sheriff Tracy McCarol.

Once the owners are are definitely identified, animal cruelty charges are planned, Deputy McCarol said Saturday afternoon. "Right now," he said, "we have the dog tags to go by," and they appear to have different owners.

Watercolor Traveling Exhibits at Begley Gallery

2007-2008 schedule is underway; after watercolor exhibit, Julie Jack work will be displayed

Adair County residents will have two opportunities to view some of the top watercolor paintings over the next two months at Lindsey Wilson College.

Through October 1, 2007, the Kentucky Watercolor Society's 2006-07 Aqueous Traveling Exhibit is on display in the Lindsey Wilson Lucretia C. Begley Art Gallery.

Obituary: Carrie Katherine Helm, 92, longtime AMH employee

Mrs. Helm was a member of a respected Cundiff community family. She was the head of a large family who leaves 83 living descendants

Carrie Katherine Helm, 92, a resident of Fair Oaks Nurse Home in Jamestown, KY, formerly of the Cundiff Community in Adair County, passed away Saturday, September 15, 2007, at 2:10amCT at Fair Oaks.

The funeral service will be Monday, September 17, 2007, at 1:00pmCT at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home. with Bro. Buford Hadley the officiating clergy.

200 jobs coming to Somerset with Aspen Compressor plant

Aspen Compressor plant, located about 35 miles from Adair County, will also house related R&D functions; will produce world's smallest refrigeration compressors

Leaders from Somerset and Pulaski County to celebrate the opening by Aspen Compressor LLC of a mini-compressor manufacturing plant in Somerset.

They were joined by Cabinet for Economic Development officials in the Friday, September 14, 2007, event.

The $18 million project is expected to create 40 high-tech jobs and more than 200 jobs in all.

Contractor will have 80 working days to complete KY 80 Bridge

Kentucky Transportation Cabinets District Eight Office Announces Temporary Road Closure in Adair County. Road 80 will be closed starting Tuesday, September 25, 2007 with traffic routed to LBN, across Green Hills Road, or out KY 55

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet will close KY 80 (Columbia-Russell Springs Road) at M.P. 13.5 in Adair County to through traffic beginning Tuesday, September 25, 2007.

This closure will be necessary for replacement of a bridge over Russell Creek (located approximately 1.2 miles east of the southeast junction to KY 55). Traffic will be detoured using Green Hills Road KY 3491, Liberty Road KY 206, and Jamestown Road KY 55.

College, Columbia will have a World to Experience

Lindsey Wilson College International Student Festival next Saturday, September 22, 2007, will let Adair Countians, area experience range of ethnic foods

Adair County's diversity will be on display on Saturday, September 22, 2007 when Lindsey Wilson College holds its annual International Student Festival.

This year's festival, called "A World to Experience," will be held in W.W. Slider Humanities Center.Beginning at 10amCT, international students will display ethnic foods and other unique items from their homelands.
