Scenic, Magicial Adair Co.: Evans Place at Pellyton

2007-09-14 - KY 206 near Pellyton, KY - Photo By Betty Sue Jasper.
IT'S A SCENE WHICH HAS CAPTIVATED THOUSANDS OF TRAVELLERS for decades, which is popularly known as the Evans Place. It's captured here with a special photographic treatment which only photographer Betty Sue Jasper could deliver. The house was the the home of longtime Adair County News and Columbia, KY Daily Statesman news correspondent Etwol Evans and the childhood home of Printing Creations co-owner and Master Print Designer Joyce Evans Coomer. (No wonder her creativity includes poetry, as well.) In any season, farm is a thing of beauty, worth, in itself, a destination trip to Pellyton, a central point for the area's glorious Fall Color Season. More information on the locale is welcome.

Duane Bonifer croquet photo draws interest

When the corn toss game became such a huge hit, it brought to mind the games wonderful outdoor games which Adair Countians have played over the years.

They've seemed to come and go in cycles of popularity: Horseshoes, tennis, badminton, yard darts and croquet have all had peak times when everyone, it seemed, had a personal, family, backyard facility.

Duane Bonifer, who sent us a photo of a revival of interest in the game at Lindsey Wilson, sent a nostalgic note, "We used to play it a lot at my home in the 1970s, then it just faded away."

That's a shame. It is a wonderful game, with a great history.
