Congratulations to ACES Academic Team!

Congratulations to the ACES Academic Team for being named Elementary District Governor's Cup Champions!

Academic Team students earned this honor by placing in the following:
  • 1st Place-Future Problem Solving
  • 1st Place-Quick Recall
  • 1st Place-Math: Jaxton Stephens
  • 5th Place-Math: Gabby Held
  • 2nd Place-Social Studies: Clara Kotter
  • 4th Place-Language Arts: Susan Schlabach
  • 5th Place-Arts & Humanities: Lyndon Bernard
  • 1st Place-Written Composition: Rory Klecker
With all these placements added together, Adair County Elementary came out on top and was named the Elementary District Governor's Cup Champions! All these students will be advancing on to Regional Governor's Cup Competition on February 24 and March 1, 2025. Great job, ACES Academic Team!

Basketball: Seniors to be honored at Monday game

The Adair County Indians Boys Varsity Basketball team returns to action today as they host the Evangel Christian Eagles (5-14). Tipoff is scheduled for 7pmCT on Monday, February 3, 2025, at John Burr Memorial Gymnasium, 526 Indian Drive, Columbia, KY. Tickets are available at hometownticketing.com.

The Eagles come off a 74-69 overtime win on the road against Corbin, while the Indians come off their 9th straight victory over Bardstown. The Indians will be seeking to repay an 88-70 defeat from the Eagles last season, in a year which saw both the Eagles and Indians finishing the season in the state tournament.

This game will also feature Senior Night festivities for the 8 Senior Indians and the Senior Cheerleaders. The senior Indians are:

  • Solomon Stonebraker
  • Carter White
  • Isaiah Cochran
  • Blane Bardin
  • Connor Loy
  • Lane Grant
  • Brayton Coomer
  • Jayden Miller
Recognition will take place after the JV game. Come out and cheer on your Indians and support our Seniors!

Drowning Saturday in Caney Fork, Russell County

First responders were called out very early Saturday morning on a report that a boat with two men in it had capsized in the Caney Fork area. Armando Penaloza was pronounced deceased at Russell County Hospital .

One of the two was brought out of the water alert and conscious. The second man, Penaloza, was found unconscious. Rescue crews administered CPR. Both were taken to the hospital. The coroner’s office later pronounced Penaloza deceased.

The investigation is ongoing by the Russell County Coroner’s Office with the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife.

Dance for K-5th Graders at ACES Sunday

My Mini & Me Valentines Dance will be held Sunday, February 9, 2025 at the Adair County Elementary School Gym from 2 to 4pmCT. Ages K-5Th Grade are welcome.

Every Student Must Bring An Adult - Father, Daughter, Mother, Son, Etc. There will be Music, Snacks, Photos, Love Letters, Crafts, Photos. The charge is $15 per child.

David Louis Meadows, 51, Green County, KY

David Louis Meadows of Greensburg, Kentucky, son of the late Shelby Meadows and Rosie Matney Meadows, was born on Friday, March 9, 1973 in Greensburg, and departed this life on Saturday, February 1, 2025 at his home. He was 51 years, 10 months, and 23 days of age.

He had made a profession of faith in Christ, with Maple Hill Methodist Church being his home church. He was formerly employed with Jane Todd Crawford Hospital as an emergency room tech and psychiatric ward attendant. He loved fishing, gaming, basketball, and kayaking. When he was younger, he excelled at skateboarding.

Basektball: Lady Indians dominate at PRP

On Saturday, February 1, 2025, the Adair County Lady Indians Basketball team notched a dominating 69-46 win over the Pleasure Ridge Park (PRP) Lady Panthers at Pleasure Ridge Park High School in Louisville. This was a big win for the Lady Indians, and should give the them a boost heading into the final 8-game stretch of the regular season.

The leading scorers for the Lady Indians were 7th grader Ila Loy with 20, Junior Kinzlee Akin with 18, and Freshman Addie Bowman with 17. Bowman led the team with 8 rebounds as well, followed by Senior Shelby Riley, Sophomore Anika Jennings, and Ila Loy, all with 6 rebounds each.

The Lady Indians will return to the court to host to the Monroe County Lady Falcons (13-8) as part of the homecoming double header that begins at 5:30pmCT on Tuesday, February 4, 2025, in John Burr Memorial Gymnasium, 526 Indian Drive, Columbia, KY. Basketball: Indians defeat Tigers 63-51

On Saturday, February 1, 2025, the Adair County Indians Boys Varsity Basketball team defeated the Bardstown Tigers 63-51 in the H&W Dukes Sport Showcase hosted at Marion County High School.

This victory marks 9 straight wins for the Indians, and improves them to 17-4 on the season. This was a nice win for Adair County over a Bardstown team that is arguably the top 5th Region contender out of the 19th District. The Indians were able to pick up the 12 point win by shooting 52% from the floor and 37% from three point range. Senior Connor Loy took over the game, leading the Indians in scoring with 26, followed by fellow Senior Isaiah Cochran with 12. Cochran and Brayton Coomer led the team in rebounds, with 6 each.

The Indians will seek to keep their winning streak alive as they host Evangel Christian (5-14) at home on Monday, February, 3, 2025, set for tip at 7pmCT in the Lindsey Wilson Shootout.

Jeffrey G. Sparks, 72, Columbia, KY (1952-2025)

Jeffrey G. Sparks of Columbia passed away on Saturday, February 1, 2025, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Lexington. He was 72 years old.

Funeral services will be held at 11amCT on Tuesday, February 4, 2025, at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, 210 Greensburg St., Columbia, KY, with Bro. Barney Taylor and Bro. Clay Scott officiating. Burial will follow in the Haven Hill Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by VFW Post 6097.

Visitation will be on Monday from 4pmCT until 8pmCT, and will continue Tuesday until time for the service at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home.
