Carol Perkins: Away They Go! By Carol Perkins Operation Christmas Child (Metcalfe Shoebox Mission) dropped off 1,540 shoebox gifts at the district center in Columbia this week, marking our third year participating in this Worldwide Mission sponsored by Samaritan's Purse. (Last year's total was 1,440.) Children in remote areas, with limited or no knowledge of Jesus Christ, will experience great joy when they receive school supplies, personal care products, a WOW toy, and much more. Local ladies produced over 500 skirts, tote bags, stuffed animals, headbands, and jewelry pieces to include in each girl's box, along with a Barbie-type doll and all the other items mentioned. (You can help, too.) The Wow toy for the boys is a regulation soccer ball and all the other standard items. Boxes from Metcalfe County are overflowing. We also included information about our county. Dear Mary Lee, This morning I'm thinking how glad I am we're family. Give my cousin Donald a big hug for discovering you and never letting go. Your smile continues to be a ray of sunshine. If you had not shared your books with Mama back in the day and I had not been the recipient of the joy she found in them, I might not now be comforted by them and sending you this thank you note. LWC Singers to perform at Mammoth Cave Sing Nearly two decades ago, Lindsey Wilson College Director of College Choral Ensembles Gerald Chafin took the Lindsey Wilson Singers underground to perform at the Mammoth Cave National Park Cave Sing. On December 1, 2024, the Lindsey Wilson Singers will give their sixth performance at the popular musical holiday event. The Lindsey Wilson Singers will be one of three artists featured at the 45th annual Cave Sing, which will be held at 2pmCT on Sunday, December 1, 2024, at Mammoth Cave National Park. This year's Cave Sing will also feature The Heart of Kentucky Chorus of Elizabethtown, Kentucky, and trumpetist Hillary Sward. "We're always honored to represent Lindsey Wilson at grand occasions such as Cave Sing. Our students absolutely love the experience!" Chafin said. "It's an incredible space to perform. The combination of the acoustics, the atmosphere, and the amazing vibe of the audience is the perfect secret sauce for a fantastic experience." The Cave Sing is free and open to the public. No tickets or reservations are required to attend, but attendees must meet the event guide behind the park visitor center at 2pmCT to depart for the cave's Historic Entrance. The group will walk about three-quarters of a mile round trip to reach the performance area. The access trail to the cave includes a steep outdoor hillside to and from the entrance with a total of 130 stairs. No seating options are available at the performance, which will last about an hour. Light refreshments will be served immediately after the performance in the lobby of The Lodge at Mammoth Cave where there will also be a visit from Santa Claus.
