Carol Perkins: Away They Go!

By Carol Perkins

Operation Christmas Child (Metcalfe Shoebox Mission) dropped off 1,540 shoebox gifts at the district center in Columbia this week, marking our third year participating in this Worldwide Mission sponsored by Samaritan's Purse. (Last year's total was 1,440.)

Children in remote areas, with limited or no knowledge of Jesus Christ, will experience great joy when they receive school supplies, personal care products, a WOW toy, and much more. Local ladies produced over 500 skirts, tote bags, stuffed animals, headbands, and jewelry pieces to include in each girl's box, along with a Barbie-type doll and all the other items mentioned. (You can help, too.) The Wow toy for the boys is a regulation soccer ball and all the other standard items. Boxes from Metcalfe County are overflowing. We also included information about our county.

Once the boxes leave Kentucky for a distribution center, volunteers will ensure all items are appropriate and add a copy of "Adventures with Jesus." A villager will lead a twelve-week Bible study, and each child will receive a New Testament in their language at the conclusion. With one box at a time, we are fulfilling the Great Commission to spread the Word throughout the land.

Let's get started for 2025. If your church/organization will fill shoeboxes, the team will supply the boxes and information for packing/purchasing items. The team will start shopping for bargains if you want to donate instead at Edmonton State Bank in the Shoebox Mission Fund. (Tax exemption!)

So many have helped through their donations, volunteering their time, and loading boxes. Without this community, we couldn't have prepared so many boxes. How rewarding is it to spread the Word to unreachable children? The reward/blessing is on both sides of the box.
