Gov. Beshear releases tax returns for 7th straight year

From Crystal Staley/Scottie Ellis

Frankfort, KY - Gov. Andy Beshear has reiterated his commitment to transparency once again and has released his 2022 tax returns and 2022 Statement of Financial Disclosure.

For the seventh consecutive year, the Governor released his tax returns and called on all other constitutional officers and legislative leaders to do the same. So far, Lt. Gov. Jacqueline Coleman is the only other statewide elected official to release their returns in the last seven years.

"Throughout my entire time in elected office, I have worked hard to be transparent with Kentuckians and to earn their trust," Gov. Beshear said. "All public officials should work to earn the public's trust and to demonstrate that their only interests are what's best for the people of the commonwealth. This used to be expected. Now, sadly, it's the exception."

Demonbreun Cemetery clean-up and history

From Mike Watson

Several descendants of Felix Demonbreun are planning a volunteer clean-up of his grave and the small cemetery where he is buried, Cox No. 2 Cemetery, located within Mammoth Cave National Park, from 9amCT to 5pmCT on Saturday, April 22, 2023.

Cox No. 2 Cemetery is a small cemetery with only about six graves, located in a forested area on the eastern side of the park. Volunteers will report to the park's Science and Resource Management Office at 9amCT for a briefing before going to the cemetery. Tasks include clearing the footpath to the cemetery, removing weeds, sticks and grass from around the headstones, cleaning headstones and generally clearing the area around the graves.

Felix Demonbreun (1789-1868) was veteran of the War of 1812, a farmer, and a Baptist preacher. The cemetery is in or near the area called Strawberry Valley where Demonbreun once had a farm.

Felix and his wife, Mary Ann Cagle, moved to Adair County from northern Tennessee around 1830 before moving to the part of Green County that is now located within Mammoth Cave National Park. Felix and Mary had at least nine children. Several of his children lived and farmed in Adair and Metcalfe counties. Descendants of Felix spelled their last name several different ways, including DeMontbrun, DeMumbrum and DeMunbrun.

Poetry by Robert Stone: Attempting to repair

By Robert Stone
Attempting to repair: a word-list sonnet for Poetry in the 'Boro
The truculent are galloping about
and launching extraordinary fights
disputing who or what is amply stout
and finally high-fiving seeming flights.

The friendly calmly smile and walk abroad
and gladly seek to better what they see,
attempting to repair what they find flawed
and prompting the disputing to agree.

We all from time to time into each camp
will be the hurter or the helper bound
by choices we have made that clearly stamp
our pith made up of pain and pleasure found.

I tried my thoughts now to encapsulate
to dampen sparks of those concatenate.

Letter: Looking for Plumgranny seeds

Crystal Jones writes:
I am in desperate need to find anyone that may have seeds for a plumgranny. My Dad use to bring them home when I was younger and I thought they were such an amazing and beautiful creation, and the aroma is undesirable. The years of having these in our home and excitement when Dad would bring them in only to have it stop. They're just not growing anymore, can't find them anywhere. Years have gone bye and when I speak of these special fruits to my friends, husband nobody knows what I'm talking about?

I just lost my father in September and I'm going through his seeds and I've been tilling his garden to prepare and these have crossed my mind, now I'm on a mission to find the plum granny of my past. I had seen the articles listed here and I'm hoping for a plumgranny miracle. Thank you for any information or help you can give me.
Crystal didn't share an email address, but it you have seeds or know how to find them, you can call her at 502-797-3160, or send a reply using our Comment Form.
