Letter: Grew up next to where Concord School stood

Ken Page writes:
I grew up next to where the Concord school stood. My family bought the Johnnie Young log house and farm. The property was long from front to back.

Johnnie named the big field 'Cubie', around the time of Spanish-American War fought in Cuba. Johnnie would tell his wife as he headed of to the back field "If anyone ask for me, tell them I've gone to Cubie".

Another clearing on the farm was named the June New ground which was cleared by June Spoon.

Short takes from the Adair Co. News, page 1, mid-January 1922

By JIM

All sorts of brief announcements and ads dotted the front page of the mid-January 1922 editions of the Adair County News:

S.L. Coffey wanted to trade an eight-year-old mare (in foal with a mule colt) for a saddle horse. Interested parties were invited to call on Mr. Coffey at the Sheriff's Office.

Mrs. Rachel Grissom offered for sale "One Reed baby carriage, Davenette, Bernice Martin bedstead, complete Victor talking machine."

Recently out-of-office Sheriff Cortez Sanders notified those who hadn't yet paid their 1921 taxes to settle with him at once "and save cost." Meanwhile, Mr. Sanders had already made the transition from lawman to newly hired assistant cashier at the First National Bank of Columbia.

Governor urges Kentuckians to brace for winter weather

By Crystal Staley/Chuck Wolfe/Angie Van Berkel

Frankfort, KY - Gov. Andy Beshear is urging caution on the roadways across the commonwealth this weekend following the National Weather Service's prediction of snow for many regions of Kentucky overnight Saturday into Sunday.

Wet, heavy snow - possibly mixed with some sleet and freezing rain - will be possible all-day Sunday, creating an opportunity for power outages in the southern and eastern portions of the state. The Governor asked Kentuckians to visit GOKy.Ky.gov to track hazardous road conditions across the commonwealth.

"Kentuckians should take time now to plan and prepare for the pending weather, so that we can keep as many people as possible off the roads overnight Saturday and Sunday," Gov. Beshear said. "If you must travel, please drive slowly."

Snow accumulations of 3 to 8 inches are expected in the eastern region of the state, south of the Bluegrass and Western Kentucky parkways. Areas between Christian County to the west and Laurel County to the east also can expect a glaze of ice. Snow accumulations of 1 to 6 inches are expected in Northern, Central and Western Kentucky.

Phillip Coffey - Vivid Imagination

Vivid Imagination - By Phillip Coffey
Doofus sitting on the couch arm in the Sphinx enigmatic position.
Letting him out, lifting garage door early, daily upheld tradition.
He is returning, thankfully without game from his glory expedition.
No stories of 'the one that got away' - no tales told that's stupendous.

My trips have been shortened, lessened by the COVID-19 Pandemic
But I must be truthful - It is all a part of my natural, practiced inclination.
Supported by Coffey Father's genes - it is my handed down predilection.
To stay on the Homefront - just stray away in my vivid imagination.
