Hernandez strike seals double-OT win against Campbellsville

By Kyle Jackson

Campbellsville, KY - The Lindsey Wilson men's soccer team (2-1-1, 2-0-1 MSC) defeated Mid-South Conference rival Campbellsville (7-2, 2-1 MSC) 2-1 in double overtime in the Battle of Highway 55 on Friday evening.

The opening half was an even affair with both sides producing few scoring chances. The Blue Raiders were outshooting the Tigers 7-2 with only one shot on goal. The game got dramatic in the 30th minute when Lindsey Wilson midfielder Rainer De Jesus was issued a red card for exchanging words with the referee after the Brazilian felt he was harshly fouled. The Blue Raiders went into the halftime break at 0-0 and faced an uphill battle in the second half only being allowed to play ten players.

Letter: Limit thru-traffic

Billy Joe Fudge writes:
There are things which befuddle me, many of which are because of my deficiency of mental acuity. Some however, defy simple logic and this situation is one of them. Why we as a community are not more proactive in our effort to limit unnecessary "thru traffic", particularly semi-truck and long, commercial rigs of more than three axles is beyond me. Accidents are preventable but particular steps often have to be taken to prevent them. In this case, this accident would not have happened had the truck been on the bypass.

Let me be clear in that I know trucks are necessary to make deliveries and for transporting equipment, etc. around town. However, we, our community, individuals and state, spent many laborious hours seeking a bypass and millions of dollars in constructing it. We did that in the name of public safety and to set our downtown business and cultural community free from the traffic gridlock that had squeezed the life out of it for decades.

Letter: Courthouse damage

Theresa Ingermann writes:
I'm hoping that the person that damaged the courthouse had insurance to cover the cost of repairs.
Comments re: Judge Cowan meeting with insurance adjusters
We're asking for more details - the first step was to document the trucking service and insurance and the next was to get estimates on the repairs. The driver was from out of state. We'll post more the minute we know it.

The win did not come easy for LWC, as the Tigers quickly jumped out ahead 1-0 in just the 5th minute of play. The match remained that way until the 73rd minute when Claudia Santillan Escobar added the equalizer to shift the momentum. Yudaya Nakayenze broke the stalemate in overtime, firing a shot into the back of the net in the 95th minute to secure the victory.

Supplements: Powerful or Pointless?

By Easton Bryant, PharmD

I love discussing supplements with our patients. It's a topic where the learning is never-ending and it's exciting when you have insights that could make a real change in their day-to-day quality of living. Even better, this often involves getting to the root of the issue instead of placing a band-aid on it. There are too many band-aids out there.

On the flip side, however, supplements won't work wonders in every situation.

I'm sure everyone would agree it would be more practical to get our adequate vitamin and mineral intake from our diets. "Supplements just make expensive urine - I'll get what my body needs from my food!" I say that's a good idea, but good luck as well.

Our modern food supply has major issues. How often does your food's packaging boast health claims because it's enriched or fortified? And have you ever given thought to why it's been manipulated in the first place? It's impoverished! So, they spray on vitamins to make it acceptable for our consumption. Strange to think about, but true.
