Scenic Kentucky: Central Park

2020-10-09 - Louisville, KY - Photo by Pen.
Frederick Law Olmstead may be best known for that other Central Park in far off New York City, but among the many he designed in Louisville is the lovely Central Park in Old Louisville. The 17-acre municipal park was originally the country estate of the DuPont Family.

Letter: Thank You

By Johnny and Shelly Roemisch

We would like to thank the members of the Columbia and Adair county area for making our recent visit so amazing. Having recently purchased some property here, we knew very few people.

A heartfelt thank you to:
  • The fine folks at Kozy Haven cabins. Made us feel right at home!!

  • The staff at Tractor Supply who suffered me well.

  • And the biggest most heartfelt thanks go to Elaine Rowlett and Dwayne Smith. If you need a realtor, Elaine's yer gal, most pleasurable purchase I've ever encountered, and customer service beyond expectations!! P.S. she also makes the best darn apple pie this side of anywhere!!! As for Dwayne Smith, if you want an honest, reliable wizard with a bulldozer... site prep, roadwork, all the good stuff, give him a call.
Again, a huge thanks to all the members of the community that really drove home all the reasons we love this area!!! (and thanks to Pen for letting me submit this)

--Johnny and Shelly

KY General Fund and Road Fund receipts for September 2020

General Fund receipts rose 4.8 Percent, Year-to-Date up 5.8 Percent
Road Fund receipts unchanged, Year-to-Date up 1.9 Percent

By John Hicks/Greg Harkenrider

Frankfort, KY - State Budget Director John Hicks reported today that General Fund receipts rose 4.8 percent in September with revenues of $1,115.4 million. This compares to $1,064.5 million collected in September 2019. So far this fiscal year (FY21), the General Fund has grown 5.8 percent. September closes out the first quarter of the fiscal year and collections have rebounded from the fourth quarter of FY20 in which collections fell 4.5 percent due to the effects of COVID-19.

The official General Fund revenue estimate for FY21 calls for revenue to grow 0.3 percent compared to FY20 actual receipts. Based on September's results, General Fund revenues can decline 1.4 percent for the remainder of the fiscal year and still meet the official estimate.

Road Fund receipts for September totaled $131.1 million and were unchanged from September 2019 levels. For the first three months of the fiscal year, collections have risen 1.9 percent. Like the General Fund, receipts in the first quarter represent a significant improvement from the previous quarter in which Road Fund revenues fell 23.6 percent.

Governor's Friday update: 1,059 new cases

By Crystal Staley/Sebastian Kitchen

Frankfort, KY - Gov. Andy Beshear on Friday updated Kentuckians on the state's continuing efforts to fight the novel coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19).

"We continue to be in another escalation of COVID-19 cases here in Kentucky," said Gov. Beshear. "This is the highest Friday in the last four weeks, and this will be our highest week ever when we finish it for number of new COVID-19 cases."

Case Information
As of 4 p.m. Oct. 9, Gov. Beshear said there were at least 78,456 coronavirus cases in Kentucky, 1,059 of which were newly reported Friday. One hundred and fourteen of the newly reported cases were from children up to age 18, of which 23 were children 5 and under. The youngest was only 2 months old.

"These are just far too many cases. We have to do better. Folks, we really need you to wear your mask," said Gov. Beshear. "We've talked a lot about enforcement this week, but the best enforcement is you, making sure that you and your family are wearing them every time you go out. If everybody takes on that enforcement, we will stop this third escalation."
