By Crystal Staley/Sebastian Kitchen

Frankfort, KY - Today, Gov. Andy Beshear announced the launch of the Healthy at Home Eviction Relief Fund website, teamkyhherf.ky.gov, where Kentuckians now can visit and apply for assistance.

"As we continue to wage this battle against COVID-19, we must make sure renters have a home so they can be Healthy at Home, while also safeguarding landlords against undue financial hardship," the Governor said. "When we come out of this global health crisis, we don't want Kentuckians facing such insurmountable debt from their housing situation that they are unable to recover. This program will provide some much-needed relief to eligible tenants and property owners during these unprecedented times."

Kentuckians can visit the site to seek information on how to obtain a portion of $15 million in federal Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act money the Governor pledged to support the Healthy at Home Eviction Relief Fund. Details of the application of the funds include:

KY Mesonet at WKU to play key role in $5M research project

Bowling Green, KY - Advances in weather forecast models have enabled forecasters to improve the accuracy of forecasts, including severe weather warnings, helping to save lives and property. The Kentucky Mesonet at WKU, a division of the Kentucky Climate Center, will play a key role in a $5 million National Science Foundation project aimed at making further advances in near-term forecasts that can be critical in active and severe weather situations.

The project, titled Precise Regional Forecasting via Intelligent and Rapid Harnessing of National Scale Hydrometeorological Big Data, is being led by Dr. Nian-Feng Tzeng of the Center for Advanced Computer Studies at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette (ULL). A team of 14 researchers at ULL, Louisiana State University, Southern University, the University of South Alabama and Western Kentucky University will work collaboratively. "This four-year research project addresses better regional weather forecasts via big data analytics, especially critical nowadays in light of climate change that has emerged as a stark problem of national importance," Dr. Tzeng said.

He further noted that researchers "will undertake collaborative research with technical innovations and to enhance workforce development in [the] five participating institutions."

Lindsey Wilson Football announces 2020-21 schedule

Full Schedule: www.lindseyathletics.com

By Chris Wells

After multiple changes to the football schedule due to COVID-19, Mid-South Conference officials released the final 2020-21 schedule today.

Lindsey Wilson, along with the other seven Bluegrass Division teams, is slated to play a seven-game schedule beginning on Feb. 19, 2021 -- all within the division. The final game of the regular-season game is scheduled for April 9, 2021.

All eight teams received an open week on March 26. The week will be used for any make-up games that may be postponed during the first five weeks.

In addition to the schedule, MSC officials announced the change to Friday football this spring instead of the normal Saturday games. The move was made to help alleviate scheduling pressures with all sports being contested in the spring. Kickoff times will be announced at a later date.

Letter: I enjoy this view everyday from my home!

Cassie Burns writes:
On a clear day you can see as far as the eye can see! The view from our deck is one of the main reasons of purchasing our home. Breeding is so much more then a small part of Adair county. It's a community based on helping a neighbor out in time of need or showing compassion and empathy when our neighbor hurts. This is my home. This is where my roots are planted!

Six Marriages at Roley, Adair County, at Christmas Time, 1896

By Mike Watson

The following article appeared in local newspapers in early 1897. Newspapers were the greatest news medium of the day and often picked up and reprinted stories of interest from near and far. This interesting Adair County item made its way into hundreds of papers from coast to coast.

A Matrimonial Mix-up--Six Weddings of Special Interest in One Little Town--News of a most extraordinary matrimonial mix-up, involving six couples, comes from the little town of Roley, in Adair County, Ky. The six weddings all occurred on the same day--three in the morning and three in the afternoon. In the morning O.S. Dunbar and Nora Tucker, Robert Hood and Minnie McWhorter, W.R. Hopkins and Ada McWhorter, were married. In this trio the McWhorters were sisters and Miss Tucker was their aunt.

After the triple ceremony, the three couples went to the home of "Uncle Bob" Tucker, father and grandfather of the brides, to be entertained. In the afternoon there were three other weddings within an hour of each other at the homes of the respective brides. There were a number of singular features connected with all six of the weddings. Every couple is now closely related to "Uncle Bob" Tucker, one of the leading men of this county. Out of the six couples, before the wedding, he had a daughter and a son, three granddaughters, a niece and a nephew.

There were in the group a brother and sisters, two sisters, two brothers, three cousins, two uncles, an aunt, four nieces and two nephews, and yet no one of the twelve candidates married anyone related to him or herself.

The Importance of Citizenship as a Scout

By Gabe Coleman

Citizenship implies more than just being a member of a community. It requires a response to one's membership in a community. Promoting citizenship through Scouting provides our country with a new generation of citizens willing to make a positive difference.

If our next generation didn't know about laws and rules and how to follow them, our country would be thrown into disarray. As Scouts, we learn about the rights, duties, and obligations of citizenship, but also resources. We are members of a local community, a nation, and a world, so, therefore, we have to protect our fellow citizens and follow the law, while also upholding the Scout oath and law as they pertain to being a good citizen. As Jimmy Stewart once remarked, "Every Scout should do his best even after he hangs up his uniform and goes out to shake hands with the adult world."

Artist Elizabeth Ackerman paints professionally

The recent photo of the painting by artist Elizabeth Ackerman received lots of comments and a question about her work. We asked and she said she moved to the Glens Fork area in eastern Adair County a couple of years ago.

She started painting after having been influenced by art teacher Davene DeVore during her years at Russell County High School, and has been painting professionally over the last four years.

To answer one of the questions sent in, yes, she does sell her work and she can be reached at (270) 585-3880 for information on her paintings.
