ACSO: how to be safer when being pulled over

Following up on the KSP story about a man impersonating an officer, pulling a woman over and attacking her, the following tips are being offered to help in this type situation...

By Sheriff Josh Brockman, Adair County Sheriff’s Office

If you are in a rural area and not in a public place and you don’t feel comfortable, or something doesn’t seem right. Reduce your speed as to let officer know you are not fleeing. Call 911 give them your location and tell them you are being stopped and want to make sure it’s an officer.

Lock your door when you stop and only roll your window down partially until officer makes contact with you. This will enables you to see that it is a uniformed officer before you roll the window all the way down.

Leave your vehicle running unless you have been instructed to shut it off by officer.

Be aware of anything that looks out of place.

Carry pepper spray or exercise your right to be armed. Whichever you choose, be familiar with safe operation of it and the responsibility that comes along with it.

I would also like to add all of Adair County Sheriff’s patrol cruisers are marked and clearly identified. We have no cars that are assigned to deputies that are unmarked.

On Tuesday, Sept. 1st, the USDA extended waivers to allow school districts in KY to go back to SFSP (Summer Food Service Program) which will allow ALL children ages 1-18 to receive free meals upon request. LCDHD COVID-19 Public Information Brief 9/4/2020

By Amy Tomlinson
Lake Cumberland District Health Department

Overall, we have fairly positive information today. While we did have several more long-term care cases, we did release 2 more cases than we added new cases. We also had no deaths today, and our hospitalizations were down by one. Our overall hospitalization rate at 9.1 is below the state average at 9.2. Our mortality rate at 2.9 is between the national average (3.0) and the state average (1.9).

We only have one county (Green) in the "red-critical growth" range. We still have four in the "orange-accelerated spread" range (Adair, McCreary, Pulaski, and Russell). We have no counties in the "green-on track" range. The remainder of our counties are in the "yellow-community spread" range. The projected "days to double" our total cases have increased to just over 37 days.

Please help us slow the spread of COVID-19 by wearing your face covering, avoiding crowds (especially in confined spaces), social distancing when around others, increasing your hand hygiene, increasing your general sanitation, and by avoiding the touching of your face.
