Grandpa - My Hero! A Father's Day gift

I'm going to tell you about someone who has been a great role model and the best Grandpa I could ever ask for, my Pa, John.

My Pa is a hard-working and enthusiastic man. Even though he's 77 years old, he can still outwork my 21-year-old brother on the farm.

He is always open to helping others and showing kindness to everyone he meets. His hobbies include: farming, spending time with his family, and having coffee with his friends at McDonald's.

He is also the biggest family man I know. He is never hesitant to spend time with his family or friends. He loves his family, friends, and his community. In addition, he was the sheriff of Adair County for 12 years. During those 12 years, he tried his best to uphold the law and keep drugs out of our county.

Every child has a gift

The public attitude toward art is that it's something elitist, hobby stuff, not a necessity. I believe, on the other hand, that art is the most basic necessity, no matter what other studies, what other educational experiences are offered a child. I believe Art allows the child to know him or herself at an early age and it keeps the focus on spirit all through life so that an individual's gifts are maximized.

A man with the wisdom of 100 years of life, Kentucky historian laureate Dr. Thomas Dionysius Clark (1903-2005), said in an interview before his death,
"... For Kentuckians to live a Full Life,
Do Something in the Arts ~ Feed Your Spirit,
Develop Your Personality ..."
I believe, "Every Child Has A Gift ~ Help them find It Through The Arts."

By Linda Waggener

What if we could narrow that Grand-Canyon-sized gap between a child's first "I want to be..." and the resulting abilities to fit in and enjoy a life using their unique gifts?

I believe that every child has a gift, every child is born with a unique ability/propensity -- one that, if identified early, if fanned with a little help from family and community, will help that child move smoothly into a successful life of contribution.

Letter: Camp Eagles Nest first virtual Scout Camp

Dear Mrs. Waggener,
I am writing to you for my Communications merit badge for Boy Scouts. The badge requires that I write to an editor of a magazine about any topic, and I chose you. I am writing to share my experience in my first week of Boy Scout virtual summer camp.
Thank you,
Gabe Coleman

This year I had been excited for camp all year long. I was looking forward to sailing and camping at Camp Crooked Creek, but then Covid-19 hit.

This is the first Scout Camp that has been done virtually, and they have called it Camp Eagles Nest.

This week I took the Communications, Environmental Science, Citizenship in the World, First Aid, and Emergency Preparedness merit badge classes virtually.

I will illustrate what my week has been like: I've been attending through Zoom, submitting work through Google classroom, creating videos, and sending emails.

Here is my daily schedule: I wake up, eat breakfast, do a merit badge class, work on chores, do merit badge prerequisites, eat lunch, do a class, work on prerequisites, go down to my basement and work out, then eat dinner, do prerequisites, and go to bed.

My parents even make me do chores while I'm at summer camp!

Letter: Aunt Margie Coffey

Karen Corbin Caldwell writes:
I was privileged to be the niece and student of Margie Coffey. She has also been my neighbor foe 33 years. She was a second mother to me and a second Grandmother to my son Matt. He would attest to that. She had more love and grace than anyone I have known. The world would have no problems today if more people followed her lead.

All of the neices and nephews by marriage to our uncle Raymond were given a true gift by our creator when she came into our family. I am blessed to say I was there when she left us. --Karen
