Adair County Adult Education office opens next week

Adair County Adult Education/Skills U, 969 Campbellsville Rd., Columbia, KY 42728 will be open next week Tuesday-Thursday, May 26-28.

Only a limited number of people will be allowed in the center, so please call before you arrive, 270-384-1741. Masks will be provided. We look forward to seeing you!

Janson Ray Sallee, 26, Casey County, KY (1993-2020)

Janson Ray Sallee, of Liberty, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, May 19, 2020, at Russell County Hospital. He was 26 years young.

The funeral service will be held privately for family only with Bro. Greg Powell officiating. The committal service and burial will be held at 3:30pmET on Sunday, May 24, 2020, at Trace Fork Cemetery. Family and friends are welcome to attend the committal at Trace Fork.

ACPC 21st CCLC Receives $2K Grant

The Dollar General Literacy Foundation recently awarded Adair County Primary Center 21st CCLC a $2,000 grant to support summer literacy. This local grant is part of more than $8.6 million in grants awarded to more than 950 schools, nonprofits and organizations across the communities Dollar General serves.

"The 21st CCLC-Camp Casey program at Adair County Primary Center is delighted to receive this grant to assist us in continuing to improve the literacy of our students. 21st CCLC-Camp Casey is a before/after school and summer program provider that has been serving this community since 2004. In the past 16 years we have provided supplemental academic and enrichment opportunities to ensure the success of Adair County students and their families. During this unique time in our history, we plan to utilize these grant funds to continue that work. We will be providing books and literacy materials for our students and families this summer to use at home for remote learning." --Dana Harmon, 21st CCLC Director ACPC

Erazo earns ITA Regional honors

Camilo Erazo has been named the 2020 Intercollegiate Tennis Association East Region Most Improved Senior and Senior Player of the Year, ITA officials today.

Erazo was 4-0 in singles and doubles play this season when play was halted due to COVID-19. During his career, Erazo owns a 27-7 singles record and a 26-10 doubles mark.

David Dwight Willen, 59, Cumberland County, KY

David Dwight Willen, age 59, of Burkesville, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, May 14, 2020, at his residence in Burkesville, Kentucky.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday May, 21, 2020 at 10amCT at the Seminary United Methodist Church with Bro Gary Cash officiating.

KSP: Russell County collision results in one fatality

Russell Springs, Ky (May 21, 2020) - On May 19, 2020 at approximately 7:29pm Kentucky State Police Post 15 responded to a two vehicle fatal collision that occurred on U.S. 127 north at the Russell/Casey County line.

Preliminary investigations indicate that 27 year old Haiden Cain of Russell Springs, KY was operating a 2020 Chevy pickup north bound on U.S. 127 when he crossed the center line striking a south bound 2007 Cadillac operated by 43 year old Darrell McClure of Dunnville, Ky.

Regular Scheduled Fiscal Court meeting, Thu 26 May 2020

The Adair County Fiscal Court will meet in regular session at 4pmCT on Tuesday, May 26, 2020, in the basement of the Adair County Annex building located at 424 Public Square, Columbia, KY.

This meeting WILL NOT be open to the public due to the COVID19 Executive Order Governor Beshear put in effect, but will be live streamed on the Adair County Fiscal Court's Facebook Page.

Edna Stephens, 81, Metcalfe County, KY

Edna Stephens age 81 of Edmonton passed away Tuesday, May 19, 2020 at Kindred Hospital in Louisville.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Friday in the Chapel of Butler Funeral Home with burial in the Metcalfe County Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 4:30-8pmCT Thursday and after 9am Friday at the funeral home.

Due to the current Covid-19 virus the viewing and service will be limited to 35 family members and friends at one time.

James Weldon Wright, 86, Burkesville, KY (1934-2020)

Mr. James Weldon Wright of Burkesville passed away on Tuesday, May 19, 2020, at The Medical Center of Bowling Green in Bowling Green, Kentucky having attained the age of 86 years, 4 months and 11 days.

The funeral service will be conducted at 3pmCT on Saturday, May 23, 2020, in The Memory Chapel of Norris-New Funeral Home, 601 N Main St, Burkesville, KY, with Bro. Thomas Smith and Bro. Jeff Flowers officiating. Burial will be in the Bow School House Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Friday May 22, 2020, from 11amCT until the funeral hour on Saturday.

LWC: 18 Adair Co. residents receive degrees

LWC will award 226 undergraduate and graduate degrees to the Class of 2020, including eighteen from Adair County. Graduates will receive their diplomas in the mail in the coming weeks. The College is working with the Student Government Association and senior class officers to determine a rescheduled date for a postponed ceremony.

The seventeen Adair County residents who received degrees were:
  • Brett Bradford received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Human Services in Counseling
  • Christina Bryant received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing
  • Dylan Conn received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History
  • Shelby Franklin received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology
  • Destiny Kinnett received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing
  • Alexa Koziol received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Women's & Gender Studies
  • Patricia Lewis received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Criminal Justice
  • Kaitlyn Lyczkowski received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Human Services and Counseling
  • Aliza Martin received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communications
  • Katie McGaha received an Associate of Arts Degree in Religion and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Human Services and Counseling
  • Kellie McGaha received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Secondary Education
  • Elizabeth Owens received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Human Services and Counseling

Governor focused on prevention and testing

Frankfort, KY - Gov. Andy Beshear on Wednesday updated Kentuckians on steps the state is taking to fight the novel coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19). He highlighted new CARES Act funding, efforts to test more residents in long-term care facilities and tips for staying safe on Memorial Day weekend.

"We're going to get through this together because just about every day and just about every decision we make, we realize that our actions can either help or harm those around us," the Governor said. "We are more connected than we have ever been."

EMS Week proclaimed in Adair May 17-23, 2020

The week of May 17-23, 2020 is proclaimed Emergency Medical Services Week in Adair County by Adair County Judge Executive Gale Cowan.

Emergency Medical Services (EMS) is a vital public service and access to quality emergency care dramatically improves the survival and recovery care of those who experience sudden illness or injury. Emergency medical services has grown to fill a gap by providing important, out of hospital care, including preventive medicine, follow up care and access to telemedicine.
