Ruth Butler, 96, Metcalfe/Cumberland Counties, KY (1923-2020)

She was the embodiment of integrity, generosity, faith and love. She touched countless lives as a teacher in Metcalfe County.

Ruth Sewell Butler, 96, passed away February 10, 2020.

Funeral services will be held 1pmCT Thursday, February 13, 2020 at Butler Funeral Home in Edmonton with burial in the Edmonton Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3-7 Wednesday and after 9 Thursday.

Kentucky's most expensive real estate listing

A 750-acre gated compound outside Whitesville in Ohio County is for sale -- for $19.5 million. It includes an airplane hangar and runway, a regulation-size pool, a sand volleyball court, two indoor squash courts, two tennis courts, a picnic pavilion, a disc golf course, hiking trails, grilling areas and a 60-acre lake.

The compound also include three large homes. The news release says that each of the "three luxury homes" is about 7,000 square feet, with a combined 14 bedrooms, 14 baths, six half-baths and garage space for eight vehicles.

Kentucky Poet Laureate to hold poetry reading at CU

Campbellsville, KY - Jeff Worley, 2019-2020 Kentucky Poet Laureate, will hold a poetry reading in Campbellsville University's Bright-Redmon Student Commons in Montgomery Library, 116 University Drive, Campbellsville at 4pmET on Thursday, February 13, 2020.

He has published six books, four chapbooks and edited a poetry anthology titled "What Comes Down to Us." His works have appeared in magazines in the United States and Canada for the past 45 years, and he is the recipient of numerous awards and honors.

Dual credit bill moves to House

Frankfort, KY - Legislation to ensure dual credit hours earned in high school would be transferable to Kentucky's colleges and universities passed the Senate today by a 38-0 vote.

The measure, known as Senate Bill 101, would require postsecondary institutions to accept dual credits from high schools. In dual credit, a student is enrolled in a course that allows the pupil to earn high school credit and college credit simultaneously.

KY Afield Video: Conservation Camps



This week the KY Afield team what the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources Conservation Camps are all about. The Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources (KDFWR) operates three conservation camps in the Commonwealth: Camp John Currie on Kentucky Lake, Camp Earl Wallace on Lake Cumberland and Camp Robert C. Webb on Grayson Lake. You can register for Camp Earl Wallace online at fw.ky.gov.

Another camping option in the summer is the 4-H Summer Camp at the Lake Cumberland 4-H Educational Center. Registration begins Monday, March 2nd for 4-H Summer Camp.

High Schools receive female diversity award

In addition to CHS, schools include Assumption, Barbourville, Bethlehem, Clinton County, Elliott County, Glasgow, Martha Layne Collins in Shelbyville, Mercy Academy, Sacred Heart, Seneca, Valley and Western Hills.

Campbellsville High School has received an award honoring female diversity, and is one of 685 schools nationwide to receive the honor.

College Board's AP Computer Science Female Diversity Award recognizes schools that are closing the gender gap and engaging more female students in computer science coursework.

Specifically, the College Board is honoring schools that reached 50 percent or higher female representation in either of the two AP computer science courses in the 2018-2019 school year, or whose percentage of the female examinees met or exceeded that of the school's female population in 2019.

Adair Solid Waste vendor change under consideration

The Solid Waste Committee met February 3, 2020 to consider an offer from Central Kentucky Fiber which will provide a trailer for storage between monthly pickups and pay monthly.

The committee explored available space for the trailer to park at the Recycling Center between pick up times should they contract with the new vendor and found at least two possible spots, pending measurements. This is for pick up at the Recycling Center.

They addressed complaints about broken bags and garbage strewn on roadsides.

Golden Rule-Wilson receives 5 KAA Marketing awards

The Kentucky Auctioneer's Association held its annual convention in Bowling Green, KY on the weekend of February 8, 2020. Top auction professionals from all across the state convened for meetings, seminars and annual award ceremonies.

Local real estate and auction company Golden Rule-Wilson received the following state marketing awards:
  • 1. Best Color Magazine Ad
  • 2. Best B&W Magazine Ad
  • 3. Best Radio Spot
  • 4. Best Personal Property Newspaper Ad (B&W)
  • 5. Best Real Estate & Personal Property Newspaper Ad ( B&W)
The awards this year were hand made in Kentucky and engraved on rustic bourbon barrel staves.

Tonight will be cloudy, with a low around 36F. There's a a 30 percent chance of rain, mainly after 3amCT. Northwest wind around 6 mph becoming calm.

Wednesday will bring a 100 percent chance of rain and a high near 56F. East wind 6 to 9 mph becoming south in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 22 mph.

Wednesday night will bring potentially heavy rain and an overnight low around 40F. South wind 9 to 13 mph becoming west after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 38 mph. New precipitation amounts between 1 and 2 inches possible.
