Alleged shoplifting attempt thwarted

By Linda Waggener as reported to ColumbiaMagazine.com by an innocent bystander
(Names of individuals and store withheld from this report because of its total unofficiality)

A white male exited the men's room of a BigBox store moving swiftly toward an exit, appearing as if he could possibly be hiding merchandise under his loose fitting clothing.

A third shift employee started toward the suspicious subject whose attire was complimented by a hoodie and reflector sunglasses with price tags blowing in the wind.

The subject clutching his front was reported to have been strangely shaped like the cartoon character Sponge Bob Square Pants.

Iconic Radcliff restaurant closes

By Ben Sheroan, The News-Enterprise

A fixture in Radcliff for more than 50 years, Jerry's J-Boy Restaurant, is closed. The doors are locked on a business long open 24 hours a day. Besides a hand-lettered sign simply saying, "Closed" on the entrance, there's no explanation to guests.

As their business grew, the owners established the corporate name Jerrico. The company also created the Long John Silver's and Fazoli's fast-food chains.

Carol Perkins: Why didn't you wake me?

Previous Column: Passenger seat peril

By Carol Perkins

Both feet flew over the side of the bed and immediately, I massaged my upper right leg. From nowhere came a burning, torturous stinging above my knee. A muscle cramp. As if every nerve in my leg was compressed and constricted, the excruciating pain rendered me helpless.

I sat on the side of the bed, rubbing my leg as hard and fast as I could, hoping for relief. "Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh," I said with each movement. I had heard that walking or putting weight on the area would often diminish my suffering, so I stood up. Instantly, the stinging sensation traveled down my leg to my foot. How could I walk? The pain was crippling.

Starving dog finds home thanks to Christy's appeal

By Linda Waggener

Cats and dogs news may be my favorite to write about, and it’s best when animals and owners are matched up for happy endings like Lee Ann and Greg Jessee's cat Sylvie. I should add there's also joy in covering good news of cows, especially at the Pampered Angus Ranch, and horses of every kind and color.

Brenda McQueary and I discussed these priorities in the news this week. She is among the strongest supporters of the Green River Animal Shelter and the staff.

We agreed that we would like to see more results sent in after a homeless animal is posted on Columbiamagazine.com so we can know what happened - hopefully a good result!

One such result came from a reader named Christy (last name withheld by request) who sent in a plea to help find a home for a starving dog she'd found. It was posted on CM Tuesday after 3pmCT. I asker her to please let us know what happened.
