Some history of the Hill Building By JIM Construction of the small building between Paull Drug Co. and the Bank of Columbia commenced in September 1922, some months after work started on the adjoining bank building. The smaller building was owned by Fred Hill, a nephew of brothers T.F. and R.F. Paull, founders of the drugstore. Fred clerked in the drug store for several years, became a licensed pharmacist in 1913, and the time of R.F. Paull's death, co-owned the establishment with O.A. Taylor. Said the News shortly after work began, "This building will make a desirable stand for a news and book store, barber shop, or a cigar and tobacco store, or a music store." Construction likely was completed in late 1922 or the forepart of 1923. This image Favorite Postcard: West Corner Public Square, Columbia, KY from about the same era as the recently posted photo shows a woman standing in the doorway of Mr. Hill's building.
