LWC Celebrates 10 Seasons of Football at 88th Homecoming

By Venus Popplewell

Rhondell Walker II returned to LWC's campus this weekend to honor a program that helped him realize a lifelong dream.

"A lot of people dream about playing college football and I got the chance to do it," said Walker from Nashville, Tenn. who graduated in 2019. "Being a part of this Blue Raider team is like no other experience -- and to work with Coach O (Chris Oliver) and the Blue Raiders was a dream come true."

Lindsey Wilson College held it's 88th-annual Homecoming celebration over the weekend. The four-day event included an anniversary reunion for the LWC football program which returned to the grid-iron in the fall of 2010 after a 75 year hiatus. More than 25 former LWC football players returned to celebrate the program.

Letter: Advice for Guy

Betsy Sharp writes:
Carol, after all the doctors that your husband has been to, have you ever considered trying either acupressure or acupuncture? I think doctors that do acupuncture are in Lexington or Louisville. Since this procedure has been practiced for thousands of years I thought I would just ask you about it just in case you were game to try it.

Good luck on whatever decision you make. --Betsy

County-by-county Real ID rollout halted

By Ben Tobin, Louisville Courier Journal

After some initial difficulties, Kentucky is changing its plan to let people get Real IDs -- driver's licenses that can be used to fly domestically and access restricted federal facilities such as power plants and military bases -- from local circuit clerks' offices. The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet had implemented two pilot programs in Franklin and Woodford counties to issue "voluntary travel IDs" that are in compliance with new federal requirements.

The deadline to obtain these licenses is Oct. 1, 2020. But in a Sept. 6 letter obtained by the Courier Journal and sent to the Kentucky Circuit Court Clerk Association and the Kentucky Administrative Office of the Courts, Cabinet Secretary Greg Thomas said that due to "significant unforeseen workload and staffing issues," Kentucky will be halting operations beyond the two existing pilot locations.

Carol Perkins: You're not going to believe this

Previous Column: Hummingbirds at the feeder

By Carol Perkins

When Guy said, "You're not going to believe this," I knew he was referring to something pathetic. He continued, "You remember when you sent the neurologist at Vanderbilt the note about her possibly helping get me into Mayo Clinic after they turned me down?" Of course, I remembered because her reply was, "I don't know anyone there." She didn't want to admit failure among her colleagues. Of course, she knew someone at Mayo. She studied there for years.

She gave up on him when she could not figure out the source of his chronic head pressure (not a headache as such), and tried endless medications and procedures that didn't help. He went to the Vanderbilt Pain Management Center for more experimenting, but not one change.
