Frankfort, KY - Kentucky's Department for Community Based Services (DCBS) staff began specialized training today in best practices to address substance use disorder in the families they serve.

The training is part of the Kentucky Opioid Response Effort (KORE), the Cabinet for Health and Family Services' overall effort to combat the opioid crisis.

DCBS trainees will learn about stigmas surrounding substance use disorders, treatment and recovery, risk and safety assessment of substance use disorders, and how adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) or early trauma can negatively affect childhood and beyond. Also, a parent in recovery from substance use will share her story and talk about key factors in support of her well-being.

TAZ Trucking to add up to 57 jobs in Warren Co.

By Nicole Burton/Jack Mazurak

Frankfort, KY - Gov. Matt Bevin today announced TAZ Trucking Inc. will grow in Bowling Green with a $7.3 million investment expected to create as many as 57 new jobs.

TAZ Trucking leaders plan to add up to 30 new truck drivers and 27 support staff for the company's administrative office and newly built machine shop. The new growth comes just six weeks after company and local leaders cut the ribbon on a previous expansion.

In 2017, the company invested nearly $10 million to purchase 53 acres and build a 30,000-square-foot machine shop and truck loading station. The investment also included a 20,000-square-foot office.

Carol Perkins: Advenures in Italy, Part 3

Read all of Carol's Adventures in Italy: Part 1 | Part 2 | Part 3 | Part 4

By Carol Perkins

After our trip to Naples and Pompeii, we went back to the hotel to pack for Florence, the next leg of our trip. I can tell this truth about Guy because he knows it: when he is in a hurry (such as checking in and out of a hotel), he gets in a tizzy. I suggested he wait by the luggage while Noah and I checked out. After the desk clerk called a cab, the guys took our luggage to the sidewalk to wait. I got in the cab and left the boys to oversee the luggage.

At the train station, the cab driver unloaded the bags and sped away. I looked around and my carry-on was missing, which contained my CPAP machine. "Did we leave a bag in the taxi? My carry on is gone," I announced in a panic. Guy had helped to unload, so he knew it wasn't in the trunk. Then Noah calmly said, "I think you left it beside the chair in the hotel. That's where it was." Guy hailed a cab back to the hotel, retrieved the bag, and caught up with us. This took an extra hour.

Off we went to Florence, arriving as the sun was setting. In booking our hotel, I chose one that was supposed to be "just minutes" from the center of the famous Duomo (dome).

Governor's Office hires fourth attorney

Governor Bevin continues an uprecedented reliance on hired legal counsel, bypassing the state's elected Attorney General, with whom he has clashed nearly constantly while in office.

By Nicole Burton

Frankfort, KY - Stephen Pitt, General Counsel to Governor Matt Bevin, announces a restructuring of the Office of General Counsel, effective immediately, as the result of the hiring of a fourth attorney in the Office, Brett Nolan.

Mr. Nolan, a native of Lexington, Kentucky, is a graduate of the University of Kentucky and the University of Chicago Law School. He clerked for U.S. District Judge Karen Caldwell prior to joining the law firm of Dinsmore and Shohl, LLP in its Lexington Office. In 2017, he joined the Bevin Administration as General Counsel in the Finance and Administration Cabinet. He left that position in the summer of 2018 to serve as a law clerk to Judge John Nalbandian, whom President Trump had recently appointed to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 6th Circuit.
