CU Wellness Center dedication is Saturday, 13 July 2019

A dedication service will be held Saturday, July 13, 2019 at 10amCT/11amET in Ransdell Chapel on the campus of Campbellsville University. A groundbreaking for the third building of the E. Bruce Heilman Student Complex will follow. Members of the Heilman family will be invited as guests of honor.

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. - Dr. E. Bruce Heilman and Betty Dobbins Heilman, his late wife, are no strangers to Campbellsville.

Both are alumni of the university and are known for a number of sizable donations to its benefit. While Bruce is certainly the more prolific of the two, Betty is no less remembered.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 11, 2019 at 1pmCT at Grissom-Martin Funeral Home with burial in Bearwallow Cemetery. Visitation will be after 10amCT Thursday.

Injury in a two vehicle collision in Casey County

KSP Post 15, Columbia, KY

Liberty KY (July 9, 2019) - Trooper Billy Begley is investigating a two vehicle injury collision that occurred on July 5, 2019 at approximately 5:26pmET, 17 miles east of Liberty on Ky 70.

Seventeen year old Emily Gillock of Liberty, was east bound on KY 70, operating a 2013 Hyundai when she attempted to turn into a private drive, turning into the path of a west bound 2017 Kawasaki motorcycle, operated by 51 year old Kenneth Warner of Science Hill.

Genealogy community celebrates author Laura Gupton

The historical and genealogical community of South Central Kentucky is abuzz with the publication of two new research volumes. Death Records of Central Kentucky: Adair, Green & Taylor Counties, volume 1, 1911-1915 and volume 2, 1916-1920, were researched and published by Laura Gupton of Campbellsville.

2019 Adair County Fair Schedule of Events

The 2019 Adair County Fair will kick off on Thursday, July 11, 2019, with Baby, Tiny Tot, and Little Mr. & Miss pageants in the Pavillion.

Friday will bring a Dairy Cattle Show in the morning at the Adair County High School FFA Barn, and then a Pet Show, Talent Contest, and concerts back at the Fair Pavillion on Friday evening.

Saturday will feature lots more pageants, cattle shows, tractor driving, and wrestling, and then things will pick up again on Monday, July 29 for two days of Floral Hall contests and shows.

Casey librarian awarded Library Science tuition scholarship

Frankfort, KY - In partnership with the Kentucky State Board of Certifications of Librarians, the Department for Libraries and Archives (KDLA) within the Kentucky Education and Workforce Development Cabinet has awarded the Library Science Tuition Scholarship to 10 public library professionals for the Fall 2019 semester, including Benjamin Murphy with they Casey Co. Public Library.

The Library Science Tuition Scholarship awards $500 per semester for students enrolled in a four-year program and $250 per semester for students student enrolled in a two-year college. Scholarship funds are awarded for the spring and fall semesters, and may be utilized for undergraduate or graduate courses.

Trail Town requested to be made part of City P&R

The subject of Trail Town came up at the July City Council meeting. Ellen Zornes, Chair of the Trail Town program that has been developed in Adair County, will be invited to bring specifics at the August City Council meeting to explore the request that the local Trail Town initiative be adopted into the City Parks & Recreation Department.

Trail Towns is a designation for communities that have a trail system or a river or water area used for canoeing and kayaking. It also allows for trails to be developed and used for walking, biking, horseback riding, canoeing and kayaking and off road riding.

Letter: Location of Joe's mystery photo

There have been several guesses about the mystery steps and iron bars on each side. Joe Hare made the photo in front of 303 Jamestown Street, Columbia, one of the older homes in town. He wrote that it might have been used to hang some kind of small double gate in front of the steps.

Maybe someone who knows can shed light on it?

Tonight will be mostly clear, with a low around 69F and calm wind.

Wednesday will be mostly sunny, with a high near 90F and a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1pmCT. Calm wind becoming west around 6 mph in the afternoon.

Orman Coy Hawthorne, 95, Green County, KY (1923-2019)

Orman Coy Hawthorne, born November 23, 1923 in Sugar Grove, Virginia to the late Robert McCoy Hawthorne and Mary Beatrice Parks Hawthorne, departed this life Friday, July 5, 2019 at his home in Green County, KY, having attained the age of ninety-five years, seven months and twelve days.

Funeral services will be at Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church at 11amCT Wednesday, July 10, 2019 by Rev. Scott Coates. Visitation 5-8pmCT Tuesday at Foster-Toler-Curry Funeral Home and after 9:30amCT Wednesday at Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church. Burial will be in the Bethlehem Cemetery with Full Military Honors performed by DAV Chapter 20 Honor Color Guard Glasgow, KY.

Pallbearers: Robert Hawthorne, Zeb Hawthorne, Tim Hawthorne, Chris Hawthorne, David Anderson and George Anderson. Honorary Pallbearers: Gerard Gephart, Leo Jackson, Trevor Calhoun and Matt Kessler.
