State's winningest basketball coach retires

By Kal Oakes, Georgetown News-Graphic

The coach who elevated Scott County High School boys' basketball to a place among the elite programs in the nation, and won more games than anyone in 100-plus years of Kentucky hoops in the process, is officially retired.

Nine days after indicating that Scott County's loss to Louisville Trinity in the KHSAA state championship was more than likely his final game, Billy Hicks confirmed those intentions to school administration on Tuesday.

"It wasn't like it was a decision I made just now," Hicks said in an exclusive interview Wednesday with the News-Graphic. "You have certain red flags out there that you know when it's time."

We only saw one boat try the water and a bit of unsuccessful fishing but many people were driving by to see the lower parking lot and beach completely flooded. The dock was almost out of sight, having floated away on the rising water.

Carol Perkins: Home self is the truest self

Previous column: On cooking

By Carol Perkins

A typical Sunday is to come home from church, have lunch, and disappear for the perfect nap, which is guilt free from chores I feel I should be doing instead of stretching out and drifting away.

Last Sunday was no different. After lunch, I disappeared into the bedroom down the hall from the den, stretched out under the bedspread of the made-up bed, and finished the Auburn/Tennessee game while Guy reclined in his chair in the den and watched golf.

While on the edge of dropping off, I heard a shout, "Carol, you alright?"
