Historic Spurlington Tunnel, from Taylor to Marion County

2019-03-08 - Taylor Co., KY - Photo from Richard Robards collection.
By Larry Smith

Here's another incredible view of the Spurlington Tunnel. The historic train tunnel sits on the Taylor/Marion County line and, at the halfway point in the tunnel, you go from Taylor to Marion County.

These days every historian is looking back, wondering why we didn't act to protect the tracks and the old rail line for tourism and other purposes. Could you imagine having Green River Lake and a railroad still in use with a booming economy? From an industrial aspect this would certainly be beneficial to Campbellsville, Lebanon, Greensburg and Springfield.

These days we still cherish the memories, but now several generations of people have grown up not knowing what is was like when we had the railroad and sounds of the train horns.

Gary, Thanks for writing. We wanted to be sure, so we got a current photo of the exterior and added it to the story. The taller sign was the previous sign.

RIDES: getting an electric 'fill up' becoming easier every day

By Tom Waggener

On the questions received since the first article about my electric car adventure was, "...where to plug in an electric vehicle in Columbia?" As of now, the closest "public" station I know of is at the KOA in Campbellsville. I use a phone app called Plugshare to locate public charging stations and, since it's crowd sourced information, a lot of actual public stations are yet to be posted.

When in Columbia, I've used a family friend's RV exterior outlet to get a charge that replenished roughly 30 miles of range per hour.
