"Last year marks the ninth consecutive year of employment gains in Kentucky," said University of Kentucky's Center for Business and Economic Research (CBER) Associate Director Mike Clark, Ph.D. "While the rate of growth has slowed, these employment gains helped lower the state's annual unemployment to 4.3 percent--its lowest level since 2000."

By Mike Clark/Kim Saylor Brannock

Frankfort, KY - Kentucky's annual unemployment rate dropped to 4.3 percent in 2018 from 4.9 percent in 2017, while nonfarm employment gained 10,500 jobs, according to the Kentucky Center for Statistics (KYSTATS), an agency of the Kentucky Education and Workforce Development Cabinet. CU social work students and faculty serve with Meridzo Ministries

By Alexandria Swanger

Campbellsville University social work students and faculty traveled to Lynch, KY, to partner with Lonnie and Belinda Riley with Meridzo Ministries to complete a renovation project for Solomon's Porch, a mission retreat center for Meridzo Ministries.

From Wednesday, February 20 until Saturday, February 23, a total of 24 faculty and students worked to renovate a room within Solomon's Porch to be used by future ministry teams.

From 1920 until 1961, the building served as a coal mine hospital. It has since been repurposed as a Mission Retreat Center that resembles a hotel or dorm for mission teams from across the United States to stay in.

Solomon's Porch serves as a base of operations while the various groups conduct mission work for the Appalachian community in Harlan County. In 2018 over 1,300 volunteers stayed at Solomon's Porch while serving the area.

If a bill has not advanced well into that process yet, it needs to move quickly to have a chance. Here’s a look at where 25 high-profile bills stand as of Monday morning.

Poetry by Robert Stone: To seem to be

A word-list sonnet, 10 February 2019
Do thugs have anti-halos suited well
to definite approaches to their work?
To seem lethargic covers coming hell
when losing all restraint they are berserk.

Do better keep their good-ways drive intact
to carefully inspect their maybes charm?
To seem at ease demands ignoring facts
when rye and whiskey soon will trip alarms.

Do vengeful ever have capacity
to see that what they ravaged they may need?
To seem insensitive proclaims carefree
when all is shrinking never to succeed.

Do we become whatever we pretend
to seem to be the almost perfect friend.
