Deadline to apply for trade mitigation payments extended

Frankfort, KY - Kentucky Agriculture Commissioner Ryan Quarles has alerted Kentucky farmers that the deadline has been extended for agricultural producers to apply for payments under the Market Facilitation Program as provided by the trade mitigation program administered by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA).

The original deadline had been January 15, 2019, but farmers have been unable to apply for the program since the lapse in federal funding caused the closure of USDA Farm Service Agency (FSA) offices at the end of business on December 28, 2018.

Comer sponsors Small Business Advocacy Improvements Act

Washington, DC - On Tuesday, the House of Representatives passed the Small Business Advocacy Improvements Act of 2019 (H.R. 128) by voice vote. This is the first Republican bill passed in the 116th Congress.

The Small Business Advocacy Improvements Act would clarify that the Small Business Administration (SBA) Office of Advocacy has the authority to examine small business issues in international economies - rather than just the domestic economy - and authorize the office to represent small businesses before foreign governments and international entities in addition to federal entities.

Adair Co. Grand Jury returns indictments Fri 4 Jan 2019

Indictments brought against 16 individuals from Columbia, Jamestown, Elkhorn, Campbellsville, and Louisville, KY, and Mobile, AL, on charges including abuse, terroristic threatening, wanton endangerment, possession, theft, and trafficking.

NOTE: Indictments are considered formal charges. An indictment is not a finding of guilt. An individual charged by indictment is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty at some later criminal proceeding.

The Adair County, KY Circuit Court grand jury, Columbia, KY, returned indictments against the following individuals on Friday, 4 January 2019:

Larry Dale Hutchison, 63, Columbia, KY (1955-2019)

He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and on his farm, was an avid outdoorsman and University of Kentucky fan, and loved music, especially listening to his daughter, Paige, sing.

Larry Dale Hutchison, 63, of Columbia, died Sunday, January 6, 2019 at Baptist Health in Louisville.

The funeral service will be Thursday, January 10, 2019, at 2pmCT at Grissom-Martin Funeral Home, 200 Campbellsville Street, Columbia, KY, with Bro. Paul Patton officiating. A private burial for the family will be in Columbia Cemetery.

Visitation is requested from 4pmCT until 8pmCT on Wednesday, January 9, 2019.

Special Called Fiscal Court Meeting 7 Jan 2019 - Report

Special called meeting by newly sworn in County Judge Executive Gale Cowan set appointments in place and magistrates approved several personnel positions; new look in annex basement.

With the Pledge of Allegiance and prayer said, newly sworn in Adair County Judge Executive Gale Cowan conducted her first meeting Monday morning, January 7, 2018. The annex basement setting looked somewhat bare with the lack of a podium and lamps, however, small cosmetic changes made little difference to official business conducted less than 24 hours after the swearing in.

A total of 71 Adair County residents have earned academic honors at Lindsey Wilson College for the 2018 spring semester. A total of 18 Adair County residents have been named to the 2018 fall semester President's List, and 53 Adair County residents have been named to the 2018 fall semester Dean's List.

Students named to the President's List earned a 4.0 grade point average on a 4.0 and attempted at least 12 credit hours during the semester. Students named to Dean's List earned at least a 3.50 graduate point average on a 4.0 scale and attempted at least 12 credit hours during the semester.

Reminder: KDFWR January Traffic Safety Checkpoint Locations

Kentucky Conservation Officers will be conducting traffic safety checkpoints throughout Green River Wildlife Management Area during the month of January to check motorists for compliance with motor vehicle laws, including driving under the influence statutes.

Conservation Officers utilize safety checkpoints in an effort to promote safety for motorists and outdoor enthusiasts using WMA's and to provide a deterrent for those who violate Kentucky Revised Statutes and Kentucky Administrative Regulations.

Supervisory-approved traffic safety checkpoint locations for Adair and Taylor Counties:
  • Adair County: Snake Creek Road - Snake Creek Boat Ramp Green River Wildlife Management Area
  • Taylor County: Wilson Creek Road - Green River Wildlife Management Area

Maude A. Neal, 90, Burkesville, KY (1928-2019)

She was a member of the Burkesville First United Methodist Church, A graduate of The Cumberland County High School, class of 1947, a waitress, and a seamstress for Bob Evans.

Miss Maude Alyene Neal, of Burkesville, Kentucky, passed away on Monday, January 7, 2019, at the age of 90.

The Funeral for Miss Maude Neal will be conducted on Wednesday, January 9, 2019, at 2pmCT, in the Memory Chapel of Norris-New Funeral Home, 601 N. Main St., Burkesville, KY, with burial to follow in The Gaines Hill Cemetery in Cumberland County, Kentucky.

The family will receive friends after 5pmCT on Tuesday, January 8, 2019 until the funeral hour on Wednesday.

Traffic accident on the Bypass in Columbia leaves two injured

On January 4, 2019 at approximately 6:28pm, the Columbia Police Department responded to an injury accident at the intersection of Burkesville street and the south 55 bypass.

The accident occurred when a 2015 Nissan Rogue operated by Beverly Adams failed to stop at the light and struck a 2001 Toyota Tundra operated by Anthony Cowan of Columbia.

Windy and warm today, high 61F

It's currently 54F at the Adair County Mesonet station. Expect patchy drizzle before 9amCT today, then isolated sprinkles between 9am and 10am. Mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming sunny, with a high near 61F. Breezy, with a southwest wind 11 to 21 mph becoming west in the afternoon.

Westerly wind gusts up to 35 mph are possible this afternoon. Motorists should use extra caution on north-south roadways, especially in high profile vehicles.

Tonight should be mostly clear, with a low around 32F. West wind 9 to 16 mph.

Wednesday will be mostly sunny and colder, with a high near 37F. Northwest wind 11 to 15 mph.

Possibility of snow this weekend
A low pressure system passing through the Tennessee Valley this weekend may bring a mix of rain and snow to parts of the Ohio Valley Friday night through Sunday. Although confidence is low in the exact track of this weather system, there is a chance some locations could receive accumulating snow.
