Letter: A most unusual sun dog

Billy Joe Fudge writes:
A most unusual sun dog. I had the pleasure of viewing it live and was fascinated by it. Rather than the usual muted rainbow effect, this one reminded me of a science fiction rendition of a Star-Wars-planet-killing ray gun.

KY Afield Outdoors: Better waterfowl hunting coming

Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife

A bitter cold front is expected to wash over duck-holding areas north of the Ohio River early next week, which should mean good news for waterfowl hunting in Kentucky, according to experts at the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources.

"The cold is coming," said John Brunjes, migratory bird program coordinator for Kentucky Fish and Wildlife. "An expanding cold trough should create single-digit temperatures across much of the central portion of the country by Tuesday night. Ducks tend to move in front of cold conditions. Hunters in the field on those movement days will likely experience exceptional hunts."

You can help J.O.Y. Ministries fundraising campaign

By Maggie Coleman

Thank you very much for the support that you have shown to J.O.Y. Ministries in the past. Many in our community and beyond have donated generously to support our local Missions Week and international mission trips, the Paz-Holley Project, or the general fund that runs the Crisis Resource Center.

It is time for J.O.Y. to undertake our annual fundraiser. We have chosen the theme "Experience J.O.Y. this Christmas" and set a goal to raise $15,000.

In the coming year, J.O.Y. plans as ambitious an agenda as ever.

A Day Trip for thoughts of Kayaking on Snake Creek

If you're new here and want to explore Snake Creek for a future adventure, leave the Columbia Public Square on Hwy 55 N, Campbellsville Street. Go past the city limits and turn right on Hwy 551/Holmes Bend Road. Pass Bull Run Road then turn right on Snake Creek Road, after about six miles or so.

By Linda Waggener With Kayaking Guide Mitzi Bault

This trip was not one to actually get on the water in a tiny boat, but it was for scouting out conditions for the next trip by Mitzi and Robyn and others who regularly sail around the rivers and lakes of Adair and surrounding counties.
