Remembering Ed Waggener: A glue that binds our community

By Guy Babin

I saw this scene on our place along a small branch that feeds Cool Springs Creek this morning as I went out to feed the cows and immediately fetched the camera.

I've been looking for something to submit that I know Ed would have appreciated. Although I didn't know Ed Waggener that well, he was considered a friend and was a kindred spirit in many ways. As relative recent transplants from off, Ed was one of several locals who welcomed us generously when we showed up in Adair. Even before we made the move he, through ColumbiaMagazine.com, gave us a sense of belonging, a source of insight, and an awareness of what it means to be a part of this wonderful community.

Critics won: more coverage of pipeline decision

Using pipeline for liquids raised fears of explosions in Central Kentucky

By Greg Kocher, Lexington Herald-Leader

A company has canceled plans to convert a 70-year-old Kentucky pipeline from natural gas service to the transport of hazardous natural gas liquids. The project had drawn opposition in Boyle, Madison and other Kentucky counties as well as criticism from groups such as the Kentucky Environmental Foundation. Opponents were concerned about the risks of a 1940s-era pipeline carrying a heavier, more explosive substance.

Letter: Story of the Sears Catalog is true to heart

Celia Downey writes:
Carol's story of the Sears Catalog is true to heart. That catalog was filled with dreams. We three sisters spent hours turning the pages and scribbling lists of stuff we wanted. We loved it. We three connected. The experiences were binding. Perhaps one could say the Sears Catalog contributed to our culture during those times.

Carol, I felt your experience. Thank you --Celia
